Sorry to hear this, although I know it's not much of a help.

Damn bad about the insurance. I have mine on my homeowners insured for a realistic replacement sum.

Just imagine the odds, that someone would steal from you at a situation like this in Japan! Like winning the lottery!

Tom, really sorry to hear about what happened. At least you were not seriously injured.

Since you reported the loss to the RSC, hopefully it will turn up soon and you'll be reunited with your baby.

Keep us posted and let us know if there's anything we can do to help.

That is horrible! I am so sorry to hear. Glad to hear the injuries were only minor.

Hopefully Karma will catch up someday to the person who stole your watch.

So sorry to hear of your misfortune.

So glad to hear you didn't sustain any major injuries.

Take comfort in knowing that you've taken all appropriate steps and done everything in your power to find your watch.

Gaijin,
Sorry to hear the terrible news. As other have said good luck with recovering that beautiful watch, just remember the watch is replaceable...you're not.

Very sorry to hear, Tom. That fall looked bad.

I am hoping for the best, and that you're still fighting the insurance company.

Tom Sorry to hear this. Its a unique watch. It will come back to you.
It likely was sold or pawned. Some unsuspecting person who buys it will
eventually take it to RSC for service. Might be a few years. I would write
to Rolex annually to remind them of the serial number and the crime.

A few years ago I bought an expensive item from a legitimate dealer.
The item turned out to have been stolen 8 years prior to me purchasing it.
The owner got it back and the dealer via the police got his money back.
I was immediately reimbursed by the dealer.

Very sorry to hear this.

Please post the full serial number, I don't know why you have XXXX some of it out.

The first thing I did when I bought my first Rolex was google the serial number, if the person who ends up with your watch does that they will see this thread.

Yea good point Will. At this point. Just an old TRF habit not to reveal the serial number.

The serial number of my stolen Rolex White Gold Daytona with black racing dial is D995978.

That's terrible news Tom.....but if there is any consolation to this sad event is that you weren't more badly injured. Looking at those stairs, it could have been so much worse of you had hit your head......

But on a brighter note, and as mentioned above, Rolexes do not get melted down for their gold value or broken up for parts and will therefore easily be identified throughout their long lifetime as being your property.

As such, given the high value, anyone buying that watch down the line will have sufficient wealth to get it serviced and will most probably use RSC. As such, I would say there is a pretty good chance of you being reunited within the next 5 years or so....... My fingers are crossed in any event......

What a terrible thing to happen. I'm so very sorry Tom.

As others have said it could have been much worse so be thankful you weren't more badly injured.

Fingers crossed your watch makes it back to you soon...

Sorry to hear this news. Glad you are well. Having lived in Japan for many years I am shocked at the men's behavior. I guess things have changed.

When I lived there in the mid-70s if you dropped something you'd be chased down the street like you were a thief in order to give you back your item.

If you left something at the restaurant it would be there waiting for you when you came back in 6 months.

I hope your situation was an exception rather than becoming the norm.

Unfortunately Rolex watches have become a very valuable commodity for thieves and are "the" hot item to steal. Here in the D.C. area where there are many AD's millions of dollars of Rolex watches have been stolen in smash and grab robberies. Of course this seems to be happening all over the country too. While I have never been to Japan, the people there are human beings just like the rest of us where there are obviously good and bad. This is human nature. Some folks will just take advantage of a situation when they see an opportunity to steal something valuable. OP, it is unfortunate but you have your health and life intact which is far more paramount than a material possession such as the watch. While I hope you get it back you also have to be realistic and realize there is a good chance it is gone for good. Do you feel you were possibly cased and set up by these guys? Kinda sounds odd that a couple of guys would be right on the scene when you fell and just seen that watch sitting there on the ground for the taking but anythings possible.
