Having owned both, still have a DSSD. I must say DSSD.
Why? You want a great all round watch, it can take a beating, and it will even look better a bit banged up. If you go the Diver way I recommend the rubber, as while the bracelet is great the lack of micro-adjustment on it will either make it too loose or too tight. A heavy watch like this on the heavy bracelet needs to be just snug.

If you're worried about wear and scratches, DSSD is the way to go.

Tough Dilemma to have.
I have DSSD and looking to add AP diver. A couple of thoughts: what is the purpose of watch? Diving or desk diving, If you are not wearing to dive, is fragility a factor? I probably would NOT sell my DSSD for the AP, but another consideration for me is AP is more versatile I think it looks great on strap or bracelet. I would not consider DSSD on anything but bracelet. Lastly, value. If you are like me, you will probably want something else down the line. Rolex prices climb and residual values hold on resale. AP retails $19k and you can pick up for $13k used. I would not buy AP at retail, I am considering slightly worn pre-owned as I imagine it will hold up price-wise, but not sure. Maybe others can comment? |

Deep sea for me
It's been a while since I've tried on the AP. But I remember that it seemed to wear larger than the deep sea. This is what turned me off the diver for me. The deep sea also wears large but I feel comfortable wearing it largely due to the clasp |

DSSD for all the reasons stated above. I prefer the D Blue dial though.
