I think if he keeps this up, he'll be out of the gas station business soon....

Seems like the owner of the gas station has officially "lost it".

uk price is one pound fifteen pence a liter.
about $1.70

He may be in the wrong business if he can't take the heat of a few complainers. That is part of being in a business that serves the public. May want to rethink career choices. Comes with the territory.

Last I read, Sausalito was part of America. And he is free to do and charge what he pleases. No one is forcing people to buy gas there. As stated in the article there is a Shell station nearby thus this isn't a monopoly/scarcity situation.

Who honestly cares if he chooses to run his business this way? There is a value proposition according to what used to be on yelp and the one local who was quoted in the article.

How about this? We start feeling outrage against ADs. Trusted sellers here provide a similar service at a lower cost.

I'm guessing that price strategy won't last long, or at least his business won't!

Has anybody ever priced the actual cost of a gallon of Root Beer?

Somewhere between $6 and $8 a gallon ......

If you want to complain, that much for colored sugar water is highway robbery!!

And what about the price of printer ink in gallons . . . :(

We'll there's always something to complain

But if I was him would immediately raise my price to 20.00 usd per gallon so nobody would stop to get some fuel and nobody would complain . . . .

Or just close the station and sit quietly somewhere in a corner . . .

For the area, the price is almost reasonable.

Is your gas 10% cheaper with cash over credit card?

Back in the day a buddy & I got an independent 'gas station',(before they went extinct), just so we'd have a place to work on our race cars.
The pumps were a PITA, so the price went up a buck and a half more than the guy across the street. Problem solved....plus we got a kickback from across the street.
A very workable business plan.

I would love a gas station that played Classical music. However i wouldn't buy gas, i'd just sit there in the evenings.

I grew up in Marin. The people who live in Sausalito proper who would buy gas there -- I guarantee you they couldn't tell you the price of gas if you gave them a multiple choice quiz. This gas station is just an extension of the Sausalito burger joint serving $15 burgers or the popular candy shop on the corner where you can buy tootsie rolls and hard candy for $20/pound. Everything there is ridiculously expensive and no one who lives there pays any attention because they don't have to.
