rolex date date platinum - different ice blue dials ?

I have just fulfilled one of my dreams. After buying in the past years a patek calatrava, a lange etc. I went back to rolex and bought a day date in platinum. I have a question regarding the ice blue dial

As you can see in these pictures the model without diamonds have a typical ice-blu color




The one I decided to buy has a lighter or more muted ice blue as you can see below. Both are brand new and from the rolex boutique:



Here you can see it in natural light:


The boutique was not entirely sure about the difference but the assumption is that the ice blue colour changed from the previous one (the one in the diamond version that I got) vs. the new one that is darker. What do you think ?

Did I make the right choice ? :)

I'm sure that I am way off base, but the 3rd photo looks more like the WG DD with a smooth bezel and Rhodium Diamond dial.
I cannot explain the color difference.

im a fan of the ice stick dial...had one myself and miss it.

I would have to honestly say I prefer the stick dial color. The photos of the diamond one is just too pale... can easily be mistaken for silver or rhodium. The true is blue is To Die For, and I would feel cheated if I was given the one in your photos. Perhaps they could pull out other selections of the same model to see if they all look similar? If not, I'd personally consider changing to the stick version.

White balance is different in each photo (unless you changed shirts lol!). I'm not doubting what you and the AD saw, but it may not be as pronounced as in the photos.

That's not blue or rhodium, that's a silver dial, straight-up. Looks great though!

Silver dial looks nice too. But the ice blue dial gives it an extra allure to the platinum DD.

Both are stunning I love the diamonds on the dial you chose. Did your warranty card state that the one you purchased was indeed a glacier dial? I'm a little surprised to see one so light.
I have a Pink dial and I know for sure the pink comes in at least two shades, a true pink and a lighter more blush shade of pink. I'm truly curious if your card from the AD says Glacier, then is there a similar situation here as I've seen with the Pink dials?
On the platinum model, if I indeed wanted to buy the glacier blue over the silver dial, then I might prefer it a tad darker as that shade is a standout signifying a Platinum Rolex. If you went with the lighter version blue for a specific reason such as; maybe you felt it would be more under the radar or fit your wardrobe better etc., if you're happy with it that's what matters anyway. It's stunning either way. Congratulations on your new Day-Date

It is definitely ice blue and not silver or grey but -- being more pale -- is not as easy to get it right on the camera:





It could however seem silver with a different lighting. This was from the rolex boutique so warranty, origin etc. is not an issue. There was only one with diamond available so there was no way to compare it with others but the overall thinking is that the dial is an "older" ice-blue even if the watch is brand new and arrived at the shop recently.

I spent hours going back and forth to the two versions but I am very happy with the diamond one as it is more special. May be the lighter ice blue makes it a bit more discreet. The sticky dial was too similar to the day-date with leather strap (the green) I already have - so went for the diamond.

My first big rolex purchase. I already have a patek calatrava and a lange and many think that with this budget I could have went a different way (e.g. with the same money you could get a nautilus chrono bicolour) but I don't regret the platinum day date for a second.

To me it is truly special.
On the wrist the weight and the overall look and feel of the watch is spectacular.

If you own /or tried one it would be nice to compare the different tones of ice-blue ? :) Feel free to post some photos!

Thank you for your comments. It is definitely marked as ice blue even on the tags that came with the watch. We checked the master dials catalogue and there is only one shade of ice blue - which I think is the one you are all familiar with. The assumption is that there was a lighter ice blue version to go with diamonds or...it could also be a one-off weird dial.

I compared it with silver, rhodium etc. and it is certainly not the same.

I went for the lighter version because is may be a bit more under the radar and I preferred a version with diamond. It wasn't easy as I did spend over two hours on it !

Not sure if this would be the case but this ice blue being a bit more unusual it might make the watch my special. Anyway I am happy with my choice as the diamond makes it really different !

LOL I didn't change shirt so you can see the different colour at natural light. It is indeed ice blue just more light/pale. I have added a couple more photos in my last post. The difference is pronounced - the boutique confirmed that they were also not sure when they got the watch and went to ask rolex for a confirmation that was indeed ice blue !

Yes I think that this could be mistaken for silver and the boutique was very fair - I could have gone for the stick version but I really liked this one with diamond more. I did think about this and was really unsure if I should go for the lighter one or the "true" ice blue but I love the diamond version and was somehow intrigued to have something in what seems to be an unusual shade!

I think it has to do something because of the diamonds because of the reflection of the diamonds that make the dial a lighter color. I myself have the ice blue with blue arabic numerals wich makes the dial more "blueish" then with stripes or silver colored roman numerals.

Gotta say I much prefer the sticks blue, if the diamond dials do exist with the darker blue I would trade for that, ask the trusted sellers here maybe they can find one, don't settle until you know for sure.

I'm not a fan of diamonds for men. Anyway, I think that is not glacier blue, and I would not be happy with it. I would want a platinum watch with the ice blue dial. Period. But I am picky.

It is glacier blue and being bought from Rolex boutique make no mistake about it. Yes I have seen dials vary from watch to watch and had a non diamond glacier blue with similar color. Congrats on new watch and enjoy...Cheers,

Darker blue diamond dials definitely exist. The OP bought this one specifically because the "ice ice" hue appealed to him, so to those saying "don't settle" or "return it," he wanted this one.

Seeing as how he got it from a Rolex boutique that specifically checked with Rolex that the dial was ice blue, I see no reason to doubt it.
