Icon8 whats been the worst reaction encountered?

whats been the WORST reaction encountered by fellow members towards you because of your rolex?

in my experience, any negativity is an "oh, err umm you have a rolex?"; or at worst, a roll of the eyes or an exhale of breath...with a "pfft" sound. im glad to say its never been by family or friends, but by distant acquaintances.

one of my friends was subjected to a barrage of abuse by a work colleague, who culminated in stating my friend's rolex was a substitute for a small penis?!?!

it is quite remarkable, as to some peoples reaction to somone having a rolex. is it just the word rolex, that sometimes triggers off bad behaviour? im sure you would not get such reaction to someone hearing, or knowing, or seeing you had a panerai or a patek? is it envy? jealously? not understanding the need of having such a fine watch?

what have been your worst experiences? thank you for your comments.

have a good day,

harvey

In 20 years of ownership, nobody has ever said anything negative (to my face). It is San Francisco and there are Rolexes everywhere. There is always someone with a nicer car, a bigger house or more money. A nice watch doesn't stand out.

Can't say I've had any such experiences. Then again, I deal with adults most of the time.

The only comments I get are from my Annika and Ronan (both my gand-children) who are very fond of watches.

Hi Harvey
I have to say, that off the top of my head I can't think of anytime that I have had anybody who has said anything bad about my watch.
Some have asked if its real and that's about it.
Though I do think that some drivers that have none standard fitted exhausts may suffer with a small !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just the typical comments like "I've never understood why one would pay SO much for a watch!"

Ha! Good thread. One time I was sitting at a female co-worker's desk helping her with a computer issue (SAP support). She leans in and examines my Daytona and says, "hey...that's a Rolex!. Are you rich or something? Is it real?"

sigh....

BTW, her tone was incredulous. She certainly wasn't complimenting me but then again, she's kinda the office b___tch. So her behavior is normal.

No nasty comment (yet!) I think if you get a nasty one you should pay it no mind. In fact...take it as a compliment! Your achievement has irked that person enough to play on their mind in order for them to say something mean.

Only from my wife, who tells me she never should have bought me that stupid watch because all you do is spend your time on that stupid forum, looking at other stupid watches, wanting to spend more money on another stupid watch that you don't need, stupid.

(not all stupids may have been present in that speech, but it's the gist of it)

I've only had positive reactions to my GMT II. My Vacheron Constantin on the other hand has caused some people to recoil in horror but to each their own I guess. I've had a few people ask the price of the Rolex and unless they're actually interested in buying one or researching the brand I avoid the answer. Most people only care about money and how much something costs, not the workmanship, passion and engineering that went into making it.

Best regards,

J.

J.
Why would a VC cause the "recoil in horror"? Just wondering.

I personally have found that fellow WIS are the only ones that notice the more exclusive brands and they are the last people to be shocked about it. If you ask 100 people what Patek, Audemar and Vacheron relate to, about 5 will get it right.

No one has ever said anything one way or another. I do notice people who try to sneak peeks when they don't think I see them.

Well, maybe it was. Was he flashing it around the office going "look at me, I've got a Rolex and you don't!" Why would all of the co-workers be standing around discussing your friend's watch if he didn't call attention to himself in the first place. I've worn a Rolex to work for the past 10 years or so and it's a non-issue

A guy went on to tell me that all Rolex watches were made by someone else and they only cost 20 bucks to make one, They were overpriced and no better than any other watch!

Also had a friend who always said my GMT was so big and ugly, later he went out and got a FAKE Rolex and it was a gold one, the gold wore off in about a month. SO WEIRD!

Never had a bad comment. Some good ones a few times.

But the truth is that most people don't even pay attn to what watch you 're wearing...unless you 're sporting this ON their face which is ...

Ok guys we have the power on this Forum to prove or disprove this Rolex--male anatomy theory. Many of you are great photographers so let's see 'you' with your Rolex. No PhotoShop manipulation etc.,
Unfortunately my camera is broken at the moment.........

Just joking around. Looks like I need to where my Casio to work to impress!
