Hey everyone I am new to this forum and have a question for you guys since everyone here seems to be very serious. I have found a local jeweler in my area that offers what I think is some good deals on Rolex's. I am very into online selling and am wanting to purchase some watches in order to sell online. Now I have two questions.. The first one is: What model rolex is more desired/ valueable would it be the Rolex Date or Rolex Datejust?? My second question is: What years of These two Rolex models are most valueable? Would you reccommend to buy a early 1990's model Rolex or would I be better off buying a 1970's model? Since its 1970's model would this make it a vintage watch making it more valuable?? I really need help you guys thanks for looking!!

Welcome to TRF!

Sorry to be "serious", but I doubt that you can make much money on either of those models.

The "Date" seems to be less popular than the Datejust, though.

When it's a non sport's model, being vintage would not add much to the value of a DJ or Date, imho. Also bear in mind that the 1970ies Rolex would probably need service which would cost in the region of US $ 500. A charge that either you or the buyer must pay, resulting is a less good earnings for you.

Agreed. Neither model seems flippable to me.

Your local jeweler probably has a pretty good grip on what his watches are worth so trying to make money off him is probably not a good idea. Maybe go to Vegas and bet it all on red, your odds are probably better than making money on a watch.

it really depends on what price you are talking about.I have spent a 100 to make 10,I have also spent 500 to make 2,000.just know what the market will bear.also dont go beyond your means as sometimes selling takes time(if you want a decent price)or you can give it away on ebay.

About your question, spend a couple of weeks reeding this forum, and surfing on the bay, and you'll learn a lot about prices, models, etc. Then,if you're still interested, put your money on the wright one.

The profit margin on a Rolex is not very high.... In other words, you can get a lot of money for one (comparatively), but it costs a lot of money to buy them too, so, as a percentage of investment, the yield is not high..

Making money on internet sales requires high volume, or high margins..... both are tough to come by on either the Date or Date Just Rolex models..

i agree with what some of the more knowledgeable people in this Forum have said in prior posts of this thread. but i would add, buying and selling rolexes for a profit is for professionals..it requires a lot of knowledge of watches and the brand. dealers that i know really do not favor selling rolexes becuase the profit margins are not high enough...they prefer 'vintage' watches where they can make a ton of money. so, if you're long term into selling watches, go for it. but if just out to 'see what happens', I can save you the trouble: DISASTER.
