Aspiring 14060M owner just saying hi!

Hi,
My first post here so go easy please!
I have wanted a Submariner forever and, having now researched them to death, I know that I'm in the market for a 14060M. I love the clean lines and the fact that I can put it on a NATO strap. What I can't figure out (despite the hours spent on-line) is whether to go for the 2 line or 4 line?
Putting the aesthetics aside (and personally I still can't decide either way), please can someone enlighten me as to whether there is any mechanical benefit to the COSC?

I've already taken a shine to one for sale in your classifieds however it 'only' comes with eleven links...is there a table that indicates size of wrist/number of links?

Finally, I need to sell a Yachtmaster generously given to me by my mother-in-law who I (now) won't have a word said against . I realise I can't sell on this forum yet, I am quite comfortable buying/selling on ebay, and I have emailed several commercial buyers for quotes; does anyone have any other suggestions for forums?

14060M was my first watch. It's as solid as they come, but we still parted ways as I felt I wanted something with more heft and I craved a panerai at the time. If I had a choice of the 2 and 4 liners, I would have gone with the 2 liner. Just a bit cleaner looking.

As for buying and selling on ebay, I wouldn't do it. Too risky. Go search the classifieds here and maybe TZ for what you are looking for. The resell on a YM is terrible compared to other SS. If you don't need to flip, then just keep the YM.

I'd go for a randomly numbered 14060M, as it has all the features you're looking for in a Sub, plus the newer movement. It has four lines, of course, but I think that's a small cosmetic feature and has no real bearing on the overall appearance of the watch.

Also, I'm not sure why you would sell that Yachtmaster to get a Sub.

They're two very different watches and there's plenty of room in a collection for both.

I'd keep saving.

My first was 4 liner M serial. Still have it. Still love it. Try to get a good example of either. Mine had a Rolex service just before I got it and came with green warranty card from that. Peace of mind. Especially since Id never ever thought Id pay six grand for a watch in my life and since I was about to I didnt want to pay for a service immediately.

Two. No benefit of getting COSC cert they all have the same movement with the exception of the very late Z serials with I believe the parachrom hairspring. I don't think it's possible to check without opening it up. I recommend this watch and would be happy to answer any questions you have about it.

Btw I sold two omegas on omega forums without a hitch or without selling history.. It's possible. You can list on watchuseek I think. If it gets pulled up by watchrecon you are good

None. Two line or four line, if it's a 14060M, it contains the 3130 movement. It's just that one has been "certified" and the other hasn't. There are undoubtedly two-liners out there keeping better time than four-liners. It all depends how well, or how recently, the movement has been regulated. Most people seem to prefer the two-line for the cleaner-looking dial, which is a carry-over from the classic 5513, it's predecessor.

Let me muddy the waters for you a little and suggest the Ceramic Sub (114060). I too was pretty set on a 2 line 14060M as my everyday watch until I got my BLNR. The new "maxi" case and fancy features are intimidating at first but the newer designs really are appreciably better, the bracelet is outstanding! And the attention to detail that Rolex has always been know for on the case, dial and movement are now tactile in everything. You get alot of extra functionality from your $1-1.5K more...

Real usable lume
The best bracelet made. Period. Full Stop.
The latest movement w/parachrome spring
And lastly, although some will disagree, I think the "Maxi" markers actually make it feel more balanced astetically, and more akin to the lengendary Subs that started it all.

The Yachtmaster is a midsize watch with a steel and gold bracelet, gold bezel and gold (champagne?) face; whilst it looks great on the delicate wrist of a 72 year old grandmother I think it would look highly suspect on mine!
I can't seem to upload an image without starting a new post so have saved a photo of it as my avatar so you can see what I mean!

I see what you mean about the 2 liner....yes it does look cleaner and if it isnt technically any different to the COSC model then I guess I'm in the market for one those preferably as suggested with a recent service.

Point taken reference ebay, and I'll certainly look at listing it here once I have figured out what it is worth (that was always going to be the beauty of an ebay sale.....someone else would establish that for me!)

Evo6....I did look long and hard at the ceramic but frankly its going to be more than I can realistically pay, plus I found the bracelet very fiddly to open (I am a few digits short on my left hand and wear my watch on the right wrist). I do have a Seamaster (blue, Bond-style) but rather than trade it in, I'm putting it in the safe for our little man once he has grown up (the Rolex he gets MUCH later!)

I bought my sub on chrono24 and if you go that route I recommend a face to face. I'm in TN and the watch was in CA but we worked out a meeting. Prices are a little inflated on there from 'dealers' but if you find a private sale that's your best bet, however a lot of people on here will kneejerk and say 'ONLY USE A TRF SELLER' but if you know what to look for, and sense the seller is legit you can find some nice watches. Expect to pay $4,800-$5,000 for a minty 2 liner with kit.

Yet, at one point in time...didn't both the 5512 and 5513 dials have four lines?

Though certainly in the minority, I actually prefer the look of the four line -- just seems more symmetrical IMHO.

After all, the 5512 four liner was good enough for the king of cool...
