Help me please
I have a watch from my grand,grand father...its oldest then 100 years...I want you to help me please,and assess from what years was manufactured,how much money cost,how rare is...and other...please help me friends...
Watch is H.W.Co adjusted (I think form Waltham company)with railway train photo in the middle... First photo is similar watch I found on net,others photos is my watch... Thanks a lot...and you have a excellent forum...keep going...

I'm affraid I can't help you in a reasonable amount of time. What I know of these watches is that they aren't very rare nor valuable. The 'railroad' thing is something of a gimmick. It's supposed to give the watch an air of accuracy with isn't backed at all. Back in the times they were sold these watches cost no more than 10 dollars. But perhaps another member can help you out

I am pretty sure my man Frans is spot on, but Pat (maccars) is a real expert in these types of models. Hopefully he will chime in.

I have two Waltham watches from my father. I know he couldn't afford much, so I am guessing they are not overly valuable.
Still a good keepsake. BTW, both mine still work, without ANY maintenance on them.

Your watch looks to be a open face case with a hunting case movement (the winding stem/crown is located at the 3:00 position); it could very possibly be that the movement is not in the original case. Also, the railroad heritage is somewhat suspect, in that most railroad companies required watches with arabic hour markers, rather than Roman numerals. This isn't absolute, however; some Roman dials were approved for RR service. Keep in mind that a true railroad grade watch was produced to a greater standard than other watches of the time. Incredible accuracy was required, and the RR grade manufacturers charged more for that type of watch. Unfortunately, a lot of folks believe they have a "railroad" watch simply because of printing on the dial and/or engraving on the case. The proof of this pudding will be in the markings on the inside of the case and on the movement itself. Just post this information, or get a really good clear photo for me to examine. Again, welcome. I look forward to seeing your watch movement. |
