Expensive insert
My wife and I were out and about yesterday and passed a jewelry store advertising used Rolexes. We stopped in to look. I saw a black/red gmt with lug holes and inquired about it. He quoted a very high price and when he saw my shocked looked explained that it had a new bezel insert and the insert alone was $1700. I mentioned that RSC will replace them for under $100 and he told me he had a parts account and that was impossible.
While this was going on my wife found an oyster date she liked and he stated it was from the 90's. I thought it looked a lot older and asked for model and serial #. It was from the 70's. Only 20 years off. We left at that point. Are these people ignorant or intentionally lying to customers? Very sad. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Coke inserts are not expensive..
It's a shame some of these stores do not know what they have.. Curious was it an authorized AD? |

All depends.. I believe some are clueless and some are trying to be scammers. Too bad about your experience there.

1700 Dollars for a thin slice of coloured aluminium? He must be completely barking mad.

If one has a Rolex parts account, approximate cost for an aluminum bezel insert is 36 dollars. Boy were they jerking your chain. Run away, quick!

Sounds like he's purposely ripping people off. Information is too attainable these days to claim ignorance.

Further evidence of the importance of doing your own research before purchasing goods, especially expensive second hand ones.

Stay away mate - I bought a Sub from a "jewelry store selling used Rolex watches" in 2007 and ended up cancelling the charge on my AmEx as the watch was about 8 years older than described on the purchase receipt...it took me about 5 months, and I kept the watch at home the the whole time and gave it back once AmEx said it was okay to do so for my full refund.
Most of the shops I've found are VERY shady and/or inexperienced with the watches they sell.
