Where would such a watch come from? I know it can be a million places, but seems strange to still be unworn or not sold. Second question, when the sales page states it comes with warranty card, my understanding is that it doesn't matter, since the watch is not sold at an AD, original warrantee is void. So then, warrantee card is just for show?

For about $1400 off from full retail, would this purchase be worth it? The eBay seller has 100% positive feedback and supposedly covered by eBay/Paypal buy back guarantee? Here is the eBay link:http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rolex-GMT-Ma...item25a6185a6f

Thanks for your suggestions.
I think that $8450.00 is a M.S.R.P. I think you can negotiate for a lower price with the AD.

Stick with an AD or trusted seller, I bought my G Serial card dated 9/12 GTMIIc 116710 in Jan from a seller off TRF, paid $6100, barely worn, great shape, all boxes/papers, I think I got a great deal.

And since Jan I have worn it just about everyday, l love the 116710

So i was checking out the GMT on DavidSW, It looks good, both V and G dates. But I'm still unclear on the warranty card thing, if not purchased from an AD, then what does the warranty card do? Can I take it to an AD and have warranty work done? Also, since an AD purchased Rolex has a 2 year warranty, how does a 2010 for example have a warranty card?
Sorry for the questions that seem gingerbread to you guys :)
Rolex/RSC do the warranty work, not an AD, they just send it on to them, which you can do yourself. Rolex warranty is valid for 2 years only, after that you have to pay. Research this here, tons of info.

Take the discount most likely you are going to be paying through pay pal. And that is the same thing i wonder on all the watch sites is how so many new watches have such big discounts , in some cases way more than a dealer is willing to give.

The seller does not have an ample eBay feedback. Potentially taking a risk that you really do not need to take.

Why not buy from an AD at an eBay price? You get the best of both worlds...

I don't think you'll have an issue getting 10-12% off MSRP at an AD...if not, you can easily beat that eBay price from a TRF trusted seller!

I asked for a for their best price at the Rolex boutique at South Coast Plaza, and they said nope. They said they can provide 4 year warranty and a 5 year full purchase price buy back, meaning you can get 100% of what you paid and trade up on another Rolex. Sounds ok, but still not sure.

Some points to add:
1) buy the seller first, then the watch.
2) the Rolex "boutiques" can't and don't discount. But other AD's sometimes do discount.
3) not all AD's are created equal. Some will do almost anything to be sure you are absolutely happy. Which can come in handy from time to time.
4) as your shopping for a GMT Master II, read up on the cyclops mag issue because you'll want to avoid that whole morass.
5) eBay is a risky place to do business for Rolex watches. Beware. Not worth the possible minuscule savings compared to vetted TRF sellers.

Trusted sellers here are a great way to go. If you have a warranty card dated, you have a warranty.

Avoid Ebay for a big watch purchase. Many other options. I'd look here on the Sales section.

Trusted seller is the way to go. Otherwise, go pay retail at an AD and get the magical experience. (None really.)

Unless your looking for a vintage piece, I suggest bypassing eBay and have a look here. Reliable and pleasant folks for advice and sales. But as they say, buy the seller first, there are scam artists everywhere. eBay can be a good source, but if something looks like a deal that's too good, well, someone's coming out ahead and it might not be you.

Ok thanks everyone, EBay is out, unless seller from here is on eBay. So basically, need to decide new vs. pre owned (love). It is known that Rolex watches last a long long time, so a few years old, would be a drop in the bucket of time. Then again, brand new from AD is a treat as well. Actually, new a few years old is also an option. :)

I just bought a new GMT II LN from David -- impulse buy as I was tired of my 216750, and only because I had been traveling too much with the 216750. Like the saying goes -- find the most beautiful girl in the world and I will show you someone who is tired of ******* her! Anyway, I briefly thought about preowned but the BNIB price was too good. Send him and email and the watch can be in your hands within 24 hours. He is that good. And btw, the warranty card was in my name. Simple. Don't over think it.

As someone mentioned above, buy the seller. There are reputable jewelers/watch stores that sell on ebay. There are even some ADs that sell pre-owned watches on ebay. So I wouldn't make a blanket statement to not buy an expensive item on ebay.

In fact I purchased my first Rolex on ebay from a large pre-owned watch store that even DavidSW has vouched for. This was at a time when DavidSW and other trusted sellers had not yet established the reputation they have developed today. I have since purchased my Rolex watches from ADs, but that is because I have developed a relationship with an AD over time and they were willing to negotiate with pricing.
