How old is my Rolex really?
Just bought what I was told was a 2014 black on black submariner. It's the ceramic bezel. Apparently I was told serial numbers after 2012 can't be used to identify age anymore
Any suggestions for me to validate that ? I want to know how old the watch really is |

With random serials, it is true you're not really going to know. Heck, even with the so called alpha numeric serials, you were looking a date range at best.

If you've got the engraved inner bezel, ceramic bezel, upgraded clasp and random serial, you've got the latest and greatest across the board. Enjoy!

Like watchwatcher said, it does become harder with random serials. Post some pics and we can probably give you a better idea.

Random serial numbers can't be determined from what I've seen discussed here.

I was thinking the same about my 2015 Daytona. What if the guarantee card was faked? Who knows? Could make it as 'young' as you want to surely?

I would think Daytona more likely to be not current year bc of the whole AD safe sales strategy. There might be a way to age it based on color of lume but if it's a piece like a SS Sub it probably didn't sit very long.

So what happens in 20 years when someone has a watch and trying to identify age.. I guess it doesn't matter anymore they just are what they are from now on

No papers? I'd go by dated warranty papers before anything else, including the date range charts for prior to the random serials.

Then, if all else fails, you guess. Highly unlikely you will need to discern much else. The watch will not be rare (at least compared to say Paul Newman Daytonas or Mil Subs) and you'll just want to make sure you can get it repaired - or sell it. Sales price will depend on condition - as it usually does. |

If it has an old style serial number, you can make a rough estimate of its age. If it is the new random ID number, you can't tell.

My guess is that it's at least 10-12 years old.You didn't get a good deal.

Who did you buy it from, what did they tell you, and can you trust them?
