Hey, it all comes down to taste, whether you like the watch. Most people are offering their opinions based on value and resale, which I'm sure you know already. I'd have no problem at all investing in a nice IWC or flipping a Rolex for one. For me the issue with the Aquatimers are the rubber and the thickness. Also IWC seems to upgrade their models very frequently which would cause some concern that the Galapagos won't age well.

The DSSD is a standout piece in watch making. The IWC a great watch but due to the fact that it's new, its priced accordingly and therefor i would not make the trade. Maybe in couple of years you can swing both, i would never let go of any exceptional Rolex tool watch, i consider them standard issue...

From what I can find on the interweb, IWC watches lose value faster than something that loses it's value pretty quickly. Keep the Deepsea and see if you can pick up an 18 month old IWC, let someone else take the hit.

I like IWC but I would not personally consider trading in my DSSD on that model. I think it would be a regret.

Had two Deepseas over the last couple of years, I don't like the thickness and I think the bracelet taper is too much, have always had a Sub and added this recently. Thickness is similar but wears better in my opinion. At the end of the day, each to their own, it would be a dull forum if we all wore the same model.

No reason to change : clasp, brancelet, movement, case, hands are better in Rolex!

Never liked the DS very much, so I would say go for it, the material looks interesting, first time I hear of rubber coated SS, sounds interesting and original, I think needs to be seen and touched in real to be able to judge, in any case I like black dive watches, whatever the material, I just got a ceramic AP diver so this one seems very original to me, I would do it, just try to buy second hand or with a very good discount as IWC watches loose a lot of their value in case of resale, not the most important but still to be strongly considered IMO
But you could be right with thinking that the IWC could be a kind of novelty that will wear off, depends on your tastes, I don't like the DS, so would take the IWC, especially never had one, whereas I've had 4 Rolex, even if I'm not a huge chrono fan the IWC appeals much more to me than the DS |

Yeah that would be a problem if in some places the coating starts to wear off because of bumps or scratches and the SS becomes visible I don't think it would look great, like PVD, basically crap IMO but DLC is much better, don't know about this rubber coating and how it reacts/holds after a certain period, if this technique has been used for a while on some watches would be good to know from owners how their watches look after some time...
