A Belated IWC Incoming Post and Brief Review

At the beginning of this year before SIHH came open letters from John Mayer and IWC published by Hodinkee and long story short it made me pay attention to a brand whose modern watches did not appeal to me very much at the time. That changed after SIHH with their revamp of the Portugieser line. One of the new watches that I liked the most from this year was the 75th anniversary Hand Wound 8 days. I actually liked the rose gold version of this piece the most but found both the metal color and price to be inconvenient. I already had a dressy piece (5227J) and I could get a chronometre bleu (I ended up getting it and for less) for the price the rose gold version cost. So I decided on the steel for a somewhat dressy, cool, and casual piece. Anyways here are some pics:

Some Pros and Cons of the watch:

Pros:
+ Relatively faithful reinterpretation of a vintage Portugieser
+ Probably the nicest strap (Santoni) on any watch under 15k that I've handled
+ Watch with deployant clasp (purchased separately) is very comfortable
+ Thickness (~13mm) is distributed well due to the diameter (43mm)
+ 8 day power reserve
+ Very nice vintage looking dial. It has a certain depth to it that is best appreciated in person. Also the spelling of "International Watch Company" in a vintage looking font is a very nice touch.

Cons:
- Inclusion of a date (not that big of a deal as it blends in rather well but would be better w/o it imo)
- The watch is not very comfortable on the standard pin buckle. I had to replace it with the deployant for much better comfortability.
- Accuracy quite noticeably diminishes as the power reserve lessens. Actually it gets quite noticeable when the watch has about 4 days or less on the power reserve.
- Finishing of the movement is quite industrial and not up to par imo with some watches at the price range

I'll try to get more pics uploaded later this week. The watch is in the bank right now and hasn't seen the wrist in almost 2 weeks! Unfortunately my chronometre bleu has been hogging it.

I have always been a Rolex fanatic but i got bit by the IWC bug several months ago.....i finally broke a month ago and bought an Aquatimer chrono blue face with rubber strap. So far I LOVE the watch and most of the Rolexes have been put back in SDB It was used with box and papers.....i could not give him my money fast enough. Now Im looking for Pilots and ANY IWC that looks like a good deal.
