Oyster Band Retrofit

Hello, what a great forum and resource. I couldn't find an exact answer to this, so hopefully this isn't a moronic question.

My dad is passing down his early 80s TT Datejust to me for finishing up law school and MBA. I'm honored, but the jubilee band is not to my taste. I've located a TT oyster band. However, the band is much newer, around 2005 (D designation). Given that my dad's Datejust is 14k/SS, how will the 18k/SS band look on it? Major differences in color? I plan to have everything fully serviced and polished.

Thank you for any and all assistance!

(especially after polishing) you'd see the difference... mostly from the gold on flush fit end links (when compared to the bezel/crown) and the top/bottom few gold links.

it's noticeable... some people don't care. some OCD guys can't stand it. it depends on how much light is on it too... if the bracelet is suitably priced, it's not a bad idea to try.

or perhaps you can locate a (cheap) worn out oyster and get a jeweler to replace all the mid links with 14k god links and tighten that sucker up.

the gold on the end links are just stuck on with some sort of adhesive... not sure how that would work on a 555, but you can always locate the right ones for it (455?).

some people can't stand for such an abomination, but i say just do what works for you... and your wallet.

Thank you for your reply. I'm pretty OCD, so I will continue to look for a 14k/SS oyster band that is decently priced.
