How are both the retailer and their pre July 1st clients to interpret the new "one year warranty tolerance"?

I have spoken to several dealers and they all say its 3 years, but this letter seems to indicate that the third year is the burden of the retailer! Makes no sense to me...

On another note, the change in +/- tolerance to -2/+2 is interesting. I imagine they will end up with a flood of "warranty" repairs on watches running at +5.

You're right! This clarifies little and opens up additional questions. For instance, the "adopting new generation final control equipment and methodology" suggests that something has improved in the manufacturing process / QC process, resulting in the increased confidence Rolex has in its products and the accompanying green tags. If so, since when? applicable to watches final assembled after what date? The letter states, and we know, that dealers are providing green tags to watches already in dealer stock. Easy to see then that there will be some watches with the green tag that haven't benefited from the "new generation final control ..." rigor.

And, of course, the language around " tolerance of at least one year" makes everything clear as mud.

So, 2 questions:

1) Is recommended service still every 5 years or so?

2) Is the +2/-2 a new COSC spec?

Adam – yes, and no.
COSC is still -4 to +6, and as long as Rolex's movement meet the spec, they get their certification.
Once the movements return to Rolex, they are free to adjust the regulation such that they achieve -2 to +2 before being QC passed and boxed up, ready for sending out.

canwatchco – the burden isn't on the AD, but simply a case of advising the customer in the interim period or when they come in with a faulty watch (that otherwise would've been out of warranty) that it is still covered. The watch will be assessed and sent to RSC and treated as an in-warranty repair.
It's all fairly simple and straight forward, when you think about it.

Interestingly, the Canadian letter makes no reference to this confusing and varyingly interpreted aspect of the US one...

My wife purchased my Sub Date in 2004 and just this year took it to Vanessa for service. It was running 3-4 seconds fast after 10 years but otherwise ran great. Never has issues with it. After she serviced it, she stated no issues with watch but did a full service!
