Which first AP to get and what to trade?

Hi everyone,
I'm comsidering my first AP and was wondering what's the difference in these two David SW has for sale? Also, what do you recommend I trade towards it from my small collection? I'm definitely keeping my gold GMT, but not sure what else I should hold on to. How do APs wear? Does anyone have this particular model I'm interested in? I have a 7 inch wrist. Apologize for all the questions, but I want to be informed as much as possible before pulling the trigger.
Watches are listed in my signature.

Thanks,

I love the panda dial on bracelet but try it on before you buy as it can be heavy for some. This watch has been discontinued but the one David has is a pristine example. In my opinion it's priced right as well for an I series. Good Luck !

Thank you. I was also looking at the 15400 white dial. Any input on that one?

Thanks again,

Love the panda more. More eye catching dial. But the 15400 bracelet is too die for.

I have a ROO Diver and a 15400. They are very different animals. If I were only allowed to keep one (God forbid) then it would be the Diver. Have you tried similar pieces on your wrist?

To answer your questions:

If the choice is out of those two ROOs then you must buy the one with the bracelet (which costs around $2k)....but either way get a rubber strap....it has to be worn to be appreciated.

As for what to sell...you're keeping the YG GMT and you need either the Sub or the EXP II as a beater. Sooner or later all the others will go because once you get used to AP you will want both the ROO and the 15400...

Thanks guys. It's Tough to decide. Either way I want to go with a white/silver dial. I like the chrono on the panda. Can you put the 15400 on a strap or are you restricted to the bracelet?

Of those two I would opt for the bracelet, considering it would cost more to source separately. Should fit fine on a 7" wrist. As far as any other APs to take a look at, the quintessential AP to own would be the 15202 Jumbo which could be had for close to those prices.

The 15400 CAN go on a strap....but the bracelet is a large part of what makes it so special.

If you are used to Rolexes then the RO or ROC, if you like chronos, will probably feel better on a 7 inch wrist. The ROO is quite a lot thicker so you need to try on first.

Thanks for all the input. I'm gonna check a local AD to try both models on prior to deciding.

Definitely try both the ROO and RO on for size, as others have mentioned they wear very differently. If you like the chrono complication consider the 26320. I for one switched from a ROO to a ROC, as I found my tastes over time have changed. The thinner profile and lighter weight appealed more and the bracelet was more comfy on the ROC. My wife does mock my choice, however, as an "old man watch". She loved the look and wrist presence of the ROO.

If going ROO, bracelet trumps strap IMHO - but get an extra strap in leather or rubber eventually, as it completely changes the look and feel of the watch at a relatively inexpensive price.

Can't go wrong either way. Good luck with the search!

My vote is for the bracelet.

Cheaper to get rubber after than a bracelet, and AP bracelets are a joy to wear.

Had the Panda as my first ROO, great piece. Also have a 15400 currently that I use as a dress watch.

The Panda is a nicer looking watch.

I'd say it depends on how you plan to wear it...if you dress more casually, the Panda will be a nicer piece. If you're in a button down and slacks more often, then 15400.

Both of David's Panda's you show are great...

One question - do you plan to wear it for a while? Or flip?

If you will hold on for a bit, buy the newer one (black box picture) - it also comes with new style bracelet - so newer, more warranty left and killer new style bracelet

If just buying to wear a short while and flip - get the older one (tan color box) with black strap and old style bracelet...

Of the watches in your sig, for me the BLNR, Omega and Pam 111 would be on the block.

Contact David...you'll be in good hands - your "new to you" Panda is a phone call away!
