True strap mania -- I bought a Pam strap and I don't even own a Pam!

Hopefully this is not as stupid as it may sound at first blush.

I'm getting a 183 G Black Seal in mid-July. I promised my wife I wouldn't buy it until we get back from Belize in case something goes terribly wrong, like our possessions are stolen, a revolution breaks out, or--worst of all--a shark bites off my left hand up past my wrist.

So I plunked down some "earnest money" with the seller, then went online and ordered up a vintage strap which should go nicely with my vintage watch.

Hey, I promised I wouldn't buy the watch but nothing was said about a strap.

The 183 has pretty much everything I wanted in my next watch: pre-owned (let someone else take the depreciation hit for a change), cool name, interesting history, large easy to read black dial, good lume, no cyclops or date, manual wind and a crystal caseback so I can admire the Pan-embellished ETA ticking away in there.

Life is sweet.

i have been waiting for my ceramic black seal for almost a year,
i almost order a custom vintage strap the other day. still ahve no idea when the watch will show up.

Very nice looking watch with a fairly ordinary looking strap.....you've definitely done the right thing getting another one, ready for the big arrival.

I like the way you operate...nice work. There's nothing worse than getting a new watch and wanting to swap out the band for something else...then having to wait for the new band to arrive. Great move!

Oh yeah, and if that shark does strike, no need to abandon the purchase...there's a reason God gave you two wrists!!!

I ordered a Z-Matten from Vintager Straps by Michah. He's very easy to deal with and patiently answered all my (dumb) questions.

I went wide and long: 27/26 and 115/100 in the darkest Z-M leather's he got, with brown box stitching and a sewn-in, flat buckle. This strap is about as historic as it gets, which seems to me to be appropriate for a Black Seal.

Micah makes all his straps to order so it will be around three and a half weeks before I get it.

Should be fun!

And probably the first strap of many more to come.

Holy Cow!!!!!! Those are w/o a doubt some of the sweetest bands I've ever seen...amazing choice.

I only spent a few seconds on his website, I wonder if he makes smaller bands. I've got a couple of vintage Seiko divers that would look killer with some of his work. I love the fact that the leather is 'aged to perfection' and the fact that it's 100% hand made...it's little things like these bands that make it so worthwhile.

Damn you, I've always dreamed of getting a PAM187 and my vision was always to swap out the rubber band for a sweet leather one...now I know where to go. It's things like this that are now making me think of using my Deep Sea funds to pull the trigger on the PAM and one of these amazing bands.

Please don't post pics...that could be the final straw that will break my back.

i was looking at his straps as well, thinking about the mauser version; seems similar to the one you ordered.

I did the exact same thing back in '04....bought my first Dirk strap and I didn't even have the watch...only the picture of the 111 that I was on the hunt for....
