China's interest in art collecting

We know the Chinese have developed an affinity for watch collecting, as that market gets saturated with perhaps too many buyers and not enough watches, the Chinese move to become a significant force in the world of art collecting.

Story here born from recent sale at auction of painting for 170 million to former cab driver now Chinese art collector.

There's no objective way to determine that Modigliani is worse than Picasso.

Chinese art buyers are no more (and no less) intelligent than American art buyers. My brother's father in law (in the USA) has a Picasso and a Warhol hanging in his apartment. I asked him why he bought them and he said, "Because I like winning auctions". How's that for sophistication?
