Is Daytona the way to go...
Is it the Ultimate watch to purchase..Been seeing several on all the Forums lately and just wondering, is it getting soft?

The ultimate watch is a Patek IMHO. However the Gold Sub or Gold Daytona are definitely the grail Rolexes from what I've read.

I am half-tempted to try the white SS daytona. Been reading so many things about the comfort of the Daytona and I haven't got a white dial in my collection presently...

Platinum Daytona is pretty up there. But I would say a patek is probably the ultimate watch company.
Daytona I would say holds is value the best out of any Rolex. Especially the SS daytonas the used ones are like $500 cheaper still.

I guess that depends on what your definition of "ultimate" is.

Regardless, I don't see the point of directly comparing a fragile art watch to a robust sports watch; they're separate categories. |

It's a classic in SS. For me not the 'ultimate' watch, as that would go to other brands.
I prefer watches with a date and it wears small for me. |

I don't know if it's the "ultimate" watch to purchase...you will get A LOT of different opinions on that going in just about every imaginable direction.
It's a great watch, there's no doubt about that -- and I wore mine daily for quite some time -- but the "ultimate" category of watches for me includes other brands and for ME --- "ultimate" would most likely have a toubillon movement... Just my .02 |

Ultimate...not sure. But it certainly is an iconic Rolex sports model that has lasted in popularity for decades and is recognized by most people. I suppose from that perspective maybe it is the ultimate Rolex.

The ultimate watch is whatever an individual wants it to be. To my mind, the Submariner is the ultimate watch because it's the perfect tool watch that can be dressed up or down.
The Daytona is an incredible reference and I love mine, but then I love all mine equally

The only Rolex I have owned that was more comfortable was the 116233. The Daytona was a great everyday watch for me.

Within the Rolex line, the Daytona is a substantial model.
But I believe many different people might say a classic YG DD is a peak achievement model... And some outdoors-types may chime-in about the DSSD as their choice. But if you race yachts, wouldn't you suggest a precious metal YM-II? So I guess the ultimate depends on your passion...

Love the Daytona, esp the ceramic bezel models. In terms of feel and exquisiteness this one most feels like a Patek or AP.

I like the Daytona in pictures a lot, but I was a little underwhelmed in person. Plus, I really like having the date on my watch.

Patek and Lange
If you want to step up then look at both the Patek 5170 and the Lange Datograph for chronographs.

For me it's the ultimate watch because it's the watch I like the most within my budget.
