Yachtmaster II Owners

Just took delivery of a SS YM2, a watch not often seen in the wild even in places inundated with Rolex. I'm really loving the watch a lot. So different than any other piece in the current lineup.

I know the regatta function is semi-useless (although a technical accomplishment for certain) and some find the text on the bezel a bit much. I just happen to think the watch is cool and unique. I like the 43-44mm size and the timekeeping is spot on. Now I just need to save up for a yacht.

Any other YMII owners out there wanting to share thoughts/impressions?

I've had mine for a couple months and basically share the same opinions on the watch. I would happily substitute a date function for the regatta timer, however I fell in love with the overlook of the watch which includes the timer and all its busyness.

Admittedly I decided if I was gonna spend this kind of money, I wanted a "wow" watch, and I believe I got it.

Huge congrats to you! Wear it in good health.

That's an amazing piece. It has so much wrist presence, really really pops. You will love how the blue, white and little touch of red come together so well. I still love mine. I saw that you flipped your AP diver, a watch that I currently have as well. They are both two watches that pop in their own ways, but the YMII seems to be able to take a little more bumps with grace I will add. Both are brilliant pieces in their own way. It's funny, when I first bought the YMll, I would try to wear it only shades of blue, but funny enough, the watch actually looks great with anything. Enjoy the stunner.

Still trying to figure out how you use the functionality/dial/bezel?

But yes, has wrist presence.

Enjoy.

Perfect timing for this thread since I'm about to pick up my white gold and platinum one next week. I'll post pics once I get it.

The AP diver was great but i lived in fear of accidently destroying that bezel. It sat rather high and was chunky. I was walking around with my arm in a position as if I were wearing a sling. Ok....kidding about that. The YM2 is far more of an every day watch with a ton of "pop". Nothing else out there like it.

It is simply a countdown timer with mechanical memory. Unscrew crown. Turn bezel 90 degrees left. Push in lower pusher. Use crown to set timer for up to 10 minutes. Return bezel to original position. Screw down crown. Or something like that.

Had GMT's but never used the second time zone. Have no plans currently to dive to 12000 feet. Not often exposed to high magnetic fields. And I generally know what the day of the week is and the month for certain. So from a practical standpoint i overpaid for a time teller. Nothing practical about the YM2 though. Just very cool.

Ok so I have an "is this normal?" question for you all.

On my YMII, if I have the timer set for a ten minute countdown, and I stop the timer at any point and reset it, it will of course go back to ten minutes. But if I simple just reset the timer without stopping it, it will reset to the nearest minute position. For example if I reset it on the fly (without stopping it) at 6m40sec, it will reset to 7min. Is that normal?

100% normal. That is in part the brilliance behind the mechanical innovation. Allows you to adjust or reset if you will on the fly. Really very clever albiet perhaps not something one would use. Ever. The manual explains the function. Again....100% normal.

My fave Rolex model but it's got a delicate movement. Mine's countdown timer is broken and it's been more than 3 months since we left it to the headquarters in Switzerland.
When you play with the buttons please remember the very correct sequence to adjust the countdown timer
I am not as active here as I used to be therefore you may ask what happened, it's my fault but Rolex should have had a mechanism to protect the movement against wrong uses

When i purchased the watch i asked about durabilty of and shock to the movement as I often wear a watch to golf. I was told that the YM2 was as shock proof as any other Rolex but that owners have indeed encountered problems with incorrect use of the countdown timer. You get the sequence wrong and you could have a problem. Thus a known problem. I agree that Rolex should correct that.
