IMHO, it is more likely to inspire the workers to get ahead than anything else.

So I went ahead and pulled the trigger on that Pelagos. It arrives Monday. It will be my first high-end watch and I cannot wait.

I would doubt people notice. Even if they did plenty of people wear them or fakes, the way you treat your staff will be more important to them 99999 times out of 100000

As long as you're good to them you're fine. Now if you worked for a very conservative company, as I do, and your boss wore a Skagen (VP) and his boss wore a GS (Co Pres) and you dealt with them everyday then rolling in with the ol Rolex on may not be the best move..

I am a salesman for Lexus but I also sell old trade ins that we get. Last month I was selling this guy in this early 40s a Honda Accord and he said "You guys must make very good money". I asked him why he would think that and he said "well, you are wearing a Rolex." I told him I paid $40 for it at the flea market. He actually believed it too and went on to buy the accord that we made a decent profit on since we didn't discount the car too much.

I used to know a man who owned about 25 Subway restaurants in the south Florida area. He had a nice mansion and the wife always drove a S class benz. He used to drive around to his stores in a 10 year old ford explore. I once asked him why he did that and he said it's because he knows his employees steal a little from him but if they saw him in a fancy car then they would steal even more so he always went to work acting like he was broke.

If you're worried, get a cheap blingy gold watch first so if anyone is looking and asks you can show them, then swap it over for your rolex one they've gotten used to seeing you with a hunk of solid gold on your wrist.

I have a friend in the same boat. He has a Tag Heuer that he wont even wear because he is worried about his employees thinking he is getting rich off their backs.
I think it is nonsense..don't become a part of society who feels they need to downplay or hide their success. Enjoy your watch

Wear the Rolex.

The way you treat your employees, co-workers and customers matters the most, not the brand or cost of the time piece you've chosen.

Wear it. I wear mine as do many of my smithing customers. Most of my pawn shop customers comment at times that they have never seen a real rolex. I just smile and say yep not too many folks wear watches these days and on the inside I am thinking man this idiot doesn't notice anything, I have been wearing nice watches for years writing this guy's tickets and he's never even noticed. Wear it, enjoy it, and if an employee does notice and doesn't like it, new employees are easy to come by and it's my experience that some who is jealous of you enough to raise the issue is someone who will/is steal/ing from you.

Howdy,

I do union work for a living and often represent low wage workers in from of a Superintendent who is a complete D-Bag for a ton of very, very well deserved reasons. He also wears a Date Day.

While I have heard all manner of highly negative comments about him, I have never heard anyone comment about his watch. In the end, most people will never notice and will likely judge you by your actions more than any other thing you do or wear.

Take care,

Ruddiger

I own a family owned restaurant and wear all of my Rolexs to work. No one notices them to be honest and I have almost 40 employees. i also drive an expensive truck. I imagine I have had and will have an employee here ad there get jealous, but most o them see y success ad how hard i work. It gives them some motivation that the fruits of their labor will pay off one day.

I never wear known high end watches in front of my employees or customers.
Why make them jealous or lose a sale to an end customer ?
I like unknown premier brands that only an afficianado would know and appreciate.

The only exception I can think of is if you have a sales team and want them to aspire but NOT in front of the customer.
Last year I did a vacation in Cabo where they were selling timeshares (very nice place) and the sales manager was walking around with his gold President in front of potential buyers.
Seriously; what an idiot.

same thing; Never drive your Ferrari to work.

Here is my tip. IF you need to wear or buy a PM model, go WG. It's got value but is understated. Most won't know it's gold. Those who do will likely be watch enthusiast and that's a good thing.

Best of both worlds really. Platinum is even better but for me, the price of entry is just too rich for me at this time. Working on it though!
