The more I think about it, the more I like it !

I have a few questions as people are so kind and well informed on this fantastc forum !

1) It seems to me that there is nothing "new" in the movement. Do you know when the movement has been introduced and if any replacement is foreseen ?

2) Do you know when it will appear is the stores ?

3) A last time : wouldn't you feel concerned that it does not feature all the latest Rolex improvements, in particular the Paraflex shock protection system ?

As far as I herd around the forum the expected date for the Stainless Steel model is to be revealed in 2009 at Basel. From speaking to the AD a while back was told the white gold with blue bezel and dial is sooner, possibly next year if i'm remembering correct.

Truly hope it has ALL updates for what it will cost. The main reason I held out also was wanting the newest version on my wrist. For a watch that is made for this sort of thing I would hope it has Paraflex. Was hoping it would have Parachrom, might hold out and buy the GMT Master II c when i'm ready until it is more certain what the deal is with the brand new Submariner.

It's going to be interesting to see these in person..

~30k for a Sub will be a bit hard to justify for me...

However, since the DSSD advertises the same 3135 movement with the Parachrome hairspring, then I would expect it will also appear in the Sub..

As far as the Paraflex shock system, I don't think it is so much an improvement from KIF as it is Rolex own registered brand name..

Hmmm - only Rolex knows when the movement will be replaced - if indeed it will. Why fix it if it isn't broken?

The "new" 3135 in the new Submariner does have a Parachrom Bleu hairspring though.

Possibly late summer to early autumn seems to be the general opinion I have heard. However - call your AD and see how deep the waiting list is if you want one.

Again - I thought it did feature the Paraflex - and that this MAY be the end of Rolex association with KIF.

Rolex "upgraded" the 3135 for the DeepSea to Parachrom and Paraflex - and AFAIK the same upgraded movement is in the new Submariner.

AFAIK the whole list of changes are:
Maxi Dial & Larger Hands
Ceramic "Cerachrom" bezel
A new "Glidelock" clasp on the bracelet (Similar to the new Deep Sea with a micro adjustment function)
Parachrom Bleu hairspring
Solid centre links for the bracelet
Large "Super Case" similar to the GMT II C.

In white gold it will have a UK retail price circa £15,500:

(Remember UK prices have 17.5% sales tax built into them - we don't add the sales tax after like in the USA)

I don't like:
the maxi dial,
the maxi case,
the blue face,
the blue bezel,
the polished centre links,
the RBR
and the likely price.

I do like the movement.

It's basically a GMT IIc with different face lettering, bezel insert, and thicker crystal. 24 hour hand deleted.

Am I missing anything? Oh, and the bezel probably has more than 24 "click" gradations.

I went for the current model after thinking I'd wait. The current "bluesy" has a beautiful blue dial and bezel; the jury remains out on the new one. It certainly appears to be a lighter blue in nearly all the pics I've seen and some aren't too flattering.

I figure that for at least $2,000 less, I'll get the colored dial I really wanted. The current 18kt model has all solid links already unlike the other Subs so the bracelet is the same. While the clasp on the new one will be an approvement over the current Sub, mine is just fine and that's with regular exposure to the better clasp on the GMT-IIC.

Finally, Bo's comment of the current 3150 in the Sub being a great, time-tested movement convinced me I probably wasn't losing much buying now.

read the WatchTime story on the shock system options and I think you'll find that to be a "much ado but nothing" as well.

is it just me or does any one else not like ceramic bezels? I bought the gmt II because I didn't like the font on the gmt IIc as it cheapened the watch look for me. When this new sub comes out that will mean rolex will dicontinue the now iconic ss sub date? Not a fan of the new sub at all! Damn I have to get my hands on a Lv sub or a ss sub date before they disapear.

I like them on the GMT-IIC and they have potential on the Sub if the color is right. They are less likely to scratch and break, but IF they do I understand from the many posts on the subject be prepared to pay many times the $60 or so to replace the metal ones.

You're not alone.
I went with the II over the IIc for the same reason. Glass half full perspective; Rolex is "saving" me lots of money by transitioning to ceramic.

Actually, I don't believe the second hand ever did reach the second markers (16610), just as they don't in the watch in your avatar. It does, however, touch the second markers on the SD, as the dial is slightly smaller than that of a Submariner. If I am wrong, someone please correct me.

I don't like them either, although it could be that I just don't like the font used the GMT IIC. On this one, I can't get past the baby blue (which appears to be the same blue they are using on the bezel of the yellow gold YM-II, which I saw in person and handled). I was utterly stunned when they rolled this Submariner out at Basel, as it signified to me that with the polished center links, the RRR, the hideous color, that they were no longer viewing the Submariner as a Professional tool watch. After all, it seems to be the new watch of choice for celebrity women. I hope they finally make a decent Sub in 42 or 43 mm, brushed bracelet, matte dial, maxi markers without white gold surrounds, but I think it will be a very long wait.

The new Subs are only in Yellow Gold and White Gold and carry a price ag of 30 thousand dollars.

The Stainless Steel 16610, 14060M, and 16613 are still being produced and none of these take their place.

So 2009, or perhaps 2010 might be the last years for these models, or maybe not, if the ceramic models are not a hit as the GMTIIc was.

I don't like it either. Especailly with a 30k price tag! I know I don't like the new blue & would never buy one is SS.

I'll keep my classic a Sub date & GMT II.
