Everything appears legit but I don't remember the insert sitting that low in the bezel channel. Is that correct?

The insert isn't low, it's just the acrylic crystal (they're tall on Mini Subs, a bit like the top hat crystal on a 1680) that makes it look that way.

Which reminds me: I was reading in Dowling and Hess' book where they mention the Rolex MiniSub. Say what? I knew about the Tudor, but is this true? I've never even seen a picture of a Rolex MiniSub. I think they were mistaken and the MiniSub was always a Tudor only piece. Any thoughts?

Of course, I also think we'll see a new version of the Turn-O-Graph and a new Air-King. I may be completely mad. |

The Dowling and Hess book, impressive as it is, isn't entirely error-free, though.

Quite true. My copy even has a few straight editing mistakes that are pretty awful. Having co-written a couple of books myself (non-watch related of course) it drives me nuts when I see them. All in all, though, a great resource.
