Day Date options and recommendations

Thinking about adding another watch and like the idea of a yellow gold Day Date. Anything I should consider? Which face is the best? New or used?

So many different options, different sizes, metal choices, dials, bezels etc.

1. Whats your budget?

2. What size are you considering? 36, 40 or 41 mm?

Just got this - created a thread as I have a couple questions - I am a Noob so I await moderator approval - wondering if face is original and whether I should replace hands. I know the provenance just unsure if face was replaced.

I went with a 36mm with Champaign diamond dial and Love It! My wrist is on the smaller size so it works for me.

Try them on and feel the difference and you will get a better idea for the size.

As for the dial there are a lot of choices and you just have to get the one you are going to enjoy looking at all the time.

There is no best...it's just what you like the most. To me, they all project a certain style of their own. Again, just my opinion, the white has a nice, crisp, classic look. The black has a kind of bad ass look. Champagne, a very classy eye-catcher, but you lose some legibility. The silver...now that one is my favorite. Of course, I have a well-documented thing for sunburst dials.

So, get what you like. You really can't go wrong.

My personal preference is for the classic 36mm size as I have about 6.5" wrists but I've tried on the new, larger size and they look fine too.

I have very limited taste in the DD dials - I like the silver stick. However, the silver Roman AK has just posted is another very nice look. What I do not like are the colored dials (blue, black, brown) or champagne dials on this model. The silver dial (or white if you want paint) helps the gold pop IMO.

Really like that look AK797! Absolutely gorgeous. In answer to the others budget isn't really an issue though I would always save if it makes sense. I think I like the idea of a 40MM

I have always chosen the classic 36mm such as the one below which was my last DD.


But now I would seriously look at the same dial but in the new 40mm range

In my opinion, and for me personally, the 36mm YG DD with either white or silver dial would be the one. Why? That particular model in the 36mm version looks and feels better than the larger DD, and I prefer a bit of contrast to the abundance of YG on the case/bezel/bracelet. My wrist is 6.75-7" and the 36mm size looks and feels like just enough without being "too much".

I've always toyed with the idea of getting a DD too.
The good thing about the DD is that I believe there is a model for everybody as there is such diversity among the DDs. If you want a DD, you can find one that will fit you.

For me, since I have small wrists, I'd go with a 36mm. Buy used and you can save $$$. DD2 is too big. DD40 is still up in the air (gotta see one in person)- I do have a GMT2c, but I feel that the 36mm would be more than enough as the wrist presence will nullify any "that's a small watch" concerns.

I used to think the new DD40 laser-etched dials were ugly. Then again Rolex stock photos aren't helping their cause. As usual, TRF members will save the day with pics that show the beauty of these watches.

The DD is an iconic watch - you'll have a great time hunting for the perfect example. Right now is a very good time to be in the market. New DD 36 can be had for $22-$25k and the DD40 for around $27-$28k, again new.

If shopping pre-owned, look for the newest model that fits your budget. The 118238 or 218238 are the model numbers for 36 and 41mm in YG respectively.

Dial preference is purely subjective.

I like Highlander's DD40 with the white stick dial in yellow gold. The white gold stick dial is also nice if you want something a little more understated.

Nice watches. Do those colored dial in leather straps get any love at all, don't see alot of those around. I particularly like the RG with rodium dial.
