Looking for some help/advice on a "re-case"...
Hoping for some advice/help from the community here.
While looking for a new daily wearer I've come across an opportunity to pick up a 16750 GMT "Pepsi" bezel with a 3075 movement at a very attractive price - due to the fact that the watch is a "re-case". Being somewhat new to collecting please pardon my ignorance but I'd love to know what a "re-case" is and why it would take place. The work was done by Rolex and essentially the watch noow looks like a new 16710 except that it still retains a 62510 jubilee bracelet (probably original but I plan to switch it for custom leather) So as a "daily wearer" and not an investment piece would you consider it? How does a "re-case" effect value? Thoughts appreciated, |

Cases usually need replacing because of corrosion , but it can be crossed threads , bent lugs , all kinds of things too.
Usually it gives it a great big kick in the balls for value of its on something collectible , but on a wearing 16750 ... Id say about 20% reduction in value |

If the price is right, I would in a heart beat! I'm probably in a very small minority, but I find service replacement cases on vintage references very interesting and in the right circumstances (price and purpose) actually desirable. |

Yeah, a re=case will have some impact on value. Probably more on a matt dial as opposed to one with WG surrounds. As a watch to wear .... so what. Price will be the factor.

20% hit in value seems reasonable.

Just giving this is a New Years eve "bump" as I've added a few pics (hope nobody minds).
I'd appreciate the collective expertise for the forum on this one, it's a re-case but as I do more research and learn more from the forum the case looks to be polished - is it possible the re-case happened a while ago? Best wishes to all for a happy, healthy 2016. |

Shouldn't it have 502 end links with 50 stamped on the last link? Not 555?

I'm sure they stamp the serial number in the caseback of watches that have been re-cased

Also, the end links appear to be aftermarket based on the overly-large 555 fonts. GMTs had Jubilee 550 end links on the 1675 and 16750s and as noted, the last link should have 50 stamped in it.
