Please help me date my 16750 GMT
Hi All,
So I recently purchased a 16750 RED/BLUE dial GMT thinking it was from 1983. Took it to an authorized dealer today for servicing and when they took off the bracelet they saw the serial and to my surprised told me it actually dates to 1984 based on a catelog they showed me. Now before I go off on the dealer who sold me the 16750 saying it's from 1983 (business is in Italy so the frustration may be lost in translation) are their an exceptions to the rule? The serial on mine is 8378xxx. I mean I'll post the whole number if you need me to I'm just livid at this moment. My 16750 is the red and blue bezel variety however I've seen some other people reference their 16750 with a 7.3 million serial (for example) as being from 1984. Based on the type of dial they have or something, even though 7.3 million should date their 16750 to around 1982. Any help would be greatly appreciated. In person the dial has this glitter like shimmer to it. It's currently at the authorized dealer while I contemplate either trying to return it to the seller or at least having it serviced before trying to sell. |

Your watch is late 83 or early 84. Rolex does not release production dates and many different people have created charts to estimate production dates so depending on what chart you trust......

Thanks for the response!
So the authorized Rolex dealer pulled out some official looking catalog/magazine with the years and serial numbers. Wish I had paid attention to the cover. I'll have to ask them the next time I'm there. Are you saying whatever that was, was an unofficial reference issued by someone other than Rolex? |

It's of the first batch of wg glossy dials made after the matte dial. This is also correct for the serial range.
