Like is it all original to the 1675?
Is he the original owner?
What has been replaced?
What is the documented service history?

eBay is not the problem - "iffy" or sketchy or clueless sellers and careless buyers are the root cause of most problems in many deals.

You are fortunate he had a return policy.

I agree.

Is there anyway I can edit the thread title?

In conclusion it's not eBay's fault that this happened, it's myself and the seller's.

You can Ping a Mod and explain your desire to update title for fairness. A decent explanation should get a favorable reply.

I actually think it's more risky/dangerous selling a watch on Ebay as opposed to buying one!

Hypothetically, what happens if I sell one of my watches on Ebay and 2 days later, the buyer substitutes my original watch for a fake and claims I'm a fraud.
Who does Ebay believe?

They will side with the buyer, eBay is not seller friendly

If you sell a watch on eBay make sure to do a "user information request" and call the customer first... feel them out before you ship.

When I brought all this up to the seller he threatened to sue me...

I shipped the watch back with fedex today and videotaped them packing the watch and getting it ready for shipment.

I agree that I should have done more due diligence before purchase but at the end of the day I went in for a stuck bezel and suspicions about the crystal and found out that the watch is a frankenwatch with a fake insert.

Everything should work out fine, and I will be much more careful in the future.
A genuine bezel insert is less than US$ 100,-- and so is a genuine clasp.

If you have gotten the watch for a good price, you should take the offered US$ 100,--and stick with it

The bracelet on a 1979 model would be 14k... how did they determine the clasp is a Datejust clasp? Do you mean the endlinks are for a Datejust?

Happy new year to OP. Did you finally got your money back from Ebay / Paypal?

I have never touched the bezel on my 1675. It was owned by a watch-maker, but it's 50 years old...so I don't fret about it.

Vintage Rolex watches are scoured like HAWKS by serious Rolex collectors (whether they choose to admit it publicly). There are very few bargains...so you should keep that in mind when you buy there.

Interesting....... The watch was listed a $4999.00 but "best offer accepted," so we don't know what the buyer paid other than less than the listed price.

Yes, it has an aftermarket insert and possibly an aftermarket crystal which may be why the bezel won't turn. Neither are big deals and to be honest it looks like pretty good value for money. If I could buy the watch for less than $4,750.00 I'd jump at it.
Here is a list of 16753's for sale on Chrono 24: http://www.chrono24.com.au/search/in...ue&sortorder=1
The cheapest one is over $5K and no guarantee these are any better than what the OP bought.
I wonder if the buyer will regret sending it back?

Bob.
