Pics of vintage rose gold vs everose gold
So after picking up my newly acquired 1601 from a renovation by one of our local AD:s, I thought it would be cool to see the difference between vintage rose gold and modern everose gold, the one with the white dial is vintage : )....47 years between these two..:
Seems like the vintage one is more red and copperish ... |

Very interesting
I've never seen a RG 1601 before, so congrats on that. The modern RG seems to be a deeper darker copper tone which is nice, but I actually think I prefer the colour of the vintage RG. Both a great

Both look very similar, other than the date function and the SEL on the newer one. Should be hard to pick one over the other to wear!

Very hard to tell without direct sunlight or tungsten only light sources, camera colour chart calibration for that particular light source, white balance set properly -- all implying use of a 'real' camera shooting RAW rather than a cellphone. This still assumes we're all running the same model good quality LCD panel which has also been calibrated.
Not trying to be a pedantic party pooper... but colour reproduction is a minefield. All we get online most of the time are 'general impressions'. Which is why we sometimes see photos online of a white gold watch which looks more yellow than it might in real life, or a yellow gold watch looking more white than it really is, or a rose gold watch looking more yellow than reddish. My point is that making comparisons between versions of rose gold by looking at pictures in this forum without having control over the chain of dependencies I alluded to above is going to be 'problematic'. As for the OP's watches, I love them!

They both look to be the same shade to me (the newer one seems to have a bit more swirls and marks on the bracelet). Maybe my screen isn't calibrated correctly.

The newer has a slightly deeper hue. If I were choosing one, it would be that one but you get the best of both generations.

OP: I see what you mean about the indices. Interesting!
Back in the day, Rolex did fewer things in-house. Quite possible that dials and hands came from different supplier(s) than cases and bracelets (pretty sure Rolex had already purchased Gay Freres by time your 1803 was produced tho, so bracelet in-house). For sure some better-informed forum members will know more about when dials were taken in-house. In other words, it's not too far fetched to imagine that your 1803 dial's indices' red gold came from a different foundry than the case/bracelet.

The older rose gold looks much better than the newer one.. but it's an awesome sight.. i've never seen a rose gold 1601.. guess they are rarer than rose gold 1803.. i've seen a mint rose gold 1803 with the original rg president bracelet before locally..
