Opinions about PAM 320
Hello
I'm just about to pull the trigger on a PAM 320. I already had it on my wrist for a testdrive, together with a PAM 90 and 233. The 233 is too expensive, the look of the 90 too shiny for my taste. I love the 1950 brushed case, the weight, the clean dial, the slightly domed crystal. I think the 320 is a great watch for business and off work. What do you guys think about the 320? Any good reasons for not buying it? Thanks for your opinions! |

lovely watch, the only reason I would not consider that model would be that I have no use for the GMT function,I don't like having a function I don't use,so I would probably go for the 312, which is cheaper as well,I would consider waiting to buy the watch you want, saving to get that watch would be better then rushing now, either way tho you can't go wrong

GMT function without a 24 hrs bezel or a AM/PM indicator is sort of useless IMO, thus it is more for show.
Additionally, I find the 320 (and 312) to heavy for my tastes, but you indicated that you want it that way, so go for it. |

Nobody is as much a GMT freak as I am. Having said that I have to agree a 12 hour GMT with no AM/PM indicator is ......different.
It is a nice watch and the fact you can hide the GMT hand when not in use gives some versatility. If it appeals to you jump on it. It does have a measure of usability. |

if you have to push yourself too much to find the extra for the 233,I would go for the 320 as it is not that different,ok it's got the 8 days PR,not sure how much of a benifit that is,and the am/pm,again unless you intend on using the GMT function loads then is that again worth it? ,there is something to be said for a less busy dial.

It's the GMT hand that makes the 320 special for me and gives it an advantage over the 312. I also assume that there are less 320s around than 312s, which is also nice. Both the 233 and 270 are beautiful watches, but definetly out of my spending budget. Honestly speaking, I think I'm already sold for the 320...

The 320 has a couple of other features that the 312 does not:
A power reserve indicator (on the back of the movement) and the 'seconds reset' function which zeros the second hand when the crown is pulled out, making it easier to set the time.

In my opinion, the GMT function on the 320 (329 is my daily wearer) is just fine. I travel alot, but most of the time there is less than 12 hour difference at the destination. In fact, I cannot recall last time there was more than 12 hours.... So this GMT serves its purpose quite well, IMO. Clean dial, PR indicator, second re-set make this watch a winner. Especially if you can get a nice little discount on it!

I would take a 320 over any other Panerai right now- the seconds reset and power reserves are great things to have, (unlike the 312) as is the brown croc strap- to buy one alone is around $500- these watches look so much better on brown croc than on the black. And I dont get the issues with the GMT being 12 hour- the nice thing about the 12hour is that you can make the dial cleaner when you dont need the GMT function by hiding behind the hour hand- it fits perfectly behind it. And when you do need the GMT, how often are you not going to be aware that it is night or day?

I'm much rather save up for a 233, but that's just me.
The 1950's case + domed crystal + 8 day PR -- that baby is just gorgeous - more classy somehow than the 312 or 320 IMO. You can get a minty 233 I series for less than $8,500 if you look around a bit. |

At the time I was considering a 320, I went into the Panerai Boutique and came out with a 233.

320 over the 233 all day long and twice in Sundays! I hate the 233 power reserve meter with a passion and hate the small 24 hour hand almost as much.
A 233 with the dot and no PR cluttering the dial would be almost perfect, make it a 47mm and it's perfect. |
