Hi everyone

HI everyone, I've been contemplating my first AP watch purchase. I own a few rolex watches but I hear AP is on a different level. I'm considering either the blue boutique stainless steel royal oak chronograph or the same watch with the black dial, I thought about maybe just starting out with a regular royal oak steel watch but I really like the chronographs. The rose gold AP's are stunning watches but a little out of my price range for now.

Any advice on which steel version wears better for everyday use. I have seen the black but I've never seen the blue boutique in person, can anyone that has had or has these pieces offer their personal opinions/reviews. Do they scratch easily?

Do AP owners usually start out with steel and then move up to pink gold?

I know rolex hold value pretty well, what about AP?

any general reviews on pros/cons would be appreciated. Thanks

Blue or black is a personal choice. You'll pay more for blue as they are boutique pieces. Most love the blue dial as its classic RO but many don't feel it's worth the ~3k premium. That's your call.

Yes they scratch easily.

I don't think there is any progression. The RO is famous for being SS. SS will always be the ideal metal for any RO imho.

As for value, you have to buy them right. They do not hold value as well as say an SS sub. Also a factor to consider is its easy to scratch the bezel and then many people wil require it to be refinished by AP beffore giving you top dollar. That's expensive compared to rolex where many can throw a polish on for you for 1-200 bucks.

Regardless it's a great watch. I highly recommend a trip to a boutique so you can compare the blue and black side by side.

Oh I think they're worth the premium, ro's and nautilus for me are made to be with blue dial, they look way cooler, but that's me, but I'm right

I'd go with the black chrono. The blue costs more and is a bit too navy for me. RG on strap is nice to move onto next.

Welcome... AP are def on a different level than Rolex. As for value, it depends on how well you buy it. Buy a BN DayDate at face value and your watch will plummet on the secondary market.

AP charges $200 to polish their watches, not bad at all.

They do scratch very easily, And you can find boutique edition in grey market
going for the chrono on the date only is matter of personal choice. I would recommend to try the watch they fit very differently the rolexs so make sure you try before any purchase.
Dont pay retail try to get at least 20% and trust you can get more.

Grab one that you like and get a great price.

AP is a fantastic brand.

Take your time, read this section, visit an AD and try some on, then buy what sings to you.

$200! That's a steal. I thought it was more. Do they require a movement service for that price or can one just send a RO in and get a 200 polish?

I'm going to have to get another RO

Good question, even if it doesn't concern mine, for me it would be can you replace a chipped ceramic part without service, I trust the answer would be yes...

The polish was $200 plus our local tax, was $217.xx total, a steal if you ask me. Not sure if it can be done w/o a movement service though.

Not sure on this either, but I inquired about a new bezel, that was $2244 in case anyone else is curious.
