Such a silly question. Of course it is.

It was for me. As a matter of fact, it's the Grail watch in my small collection.

Agree. If it floats your boat, that's great and have at it. But I have kept passing on it when I have purchased the watches that are in my meager collection.

If collecting Rolex, then yes. The Sub is kind of like the navy blue suit in a gentleman's wardrobe. No matter how many suits you have, one of them needs to be navy blue.

I think if I went for a sub, it would be vintage. Now when money is no object to me, then I will have a sh'load of pieces, and a Sub would definitely be there.
Definitely not top of my list, but it's on there. |

For a "collector" I'd say yes because it's an icon...for the rest of the world, buy what YOU like

Nope. Not for me. Don't dive and never will (not that that matters). GMT is a must for ME. Fun and useful when traveling.

Not for me...yet. I think I am more likely to go with a GMT before a sub.

I hope to own a Submariner, but don't particularly care for the submariner date.
I think a 14060, 14060M, or a 114060 is important in a modern collection. Sent from my XT1575 using Tapatalk

Every time I go to buy something I end up getting a Sub. So yeah, you absolutely need a Sub.

I love my Daytona. I think it's interesting, classy, and the perfect fit for my wrist. .... buuut I still love the Submariner Date, and I'd grab one in a heartbeat if the deal was great. I'm trying to keep my nose down and save for a Day-Date, though. AP has almost swayed me, too.

To me it depends what you mean by "collection". Some people may want to collect variations/vintages within a particular Rolex line and so if Submariner is not that line then no. However a Rolex Sub seems to be today's standard sport watch and will likley hold its value better than some others.
