Dressing down a blue dial Yachtmaster

Hi Gents,

I'm running into a problem and curious whether it's just my perception or whether most agree with me.

I recently acquired a blue dial yachtmaster and REALLY like the watch but I'm a real casual guy. Jeans and a collared shirt is the most dressed up I get to work and generally speaking, I dress down even more since I work from home most days. Based on my preference for dressing down, I'm having a hard time wearing my Yachtmaster with my clothing. My Hulk dresses down easily, I can even get away with the YMII but the blue yachtmaster seems at odds with my dressed down style.

Any other owners feel the same way or have some pics to set me straight?

Your overthinking it. Any Rolex sports watch can be dressed down. It looks great in my opinion. Now if you have fallen out of love with that particular watch that is another story.

Have to agree. The blue dial YM is a very versatile model - doesn't look out of place with shorts and flip flops let alone jeans. Wear and enjoy! Beautiful watch

The PCLs, polished case and raised, polished Arabic numerals on the bezel make it flashy. And then there is that awesome sunburst blue dial!

Try a NATO strap in black or pinstripe. Works for me......

Uh, I walk around in my wet board shorts, tank top with holes, and sandy slippahs wearing that watch.

That's about as dressed down as you can get. It may be one step away from Derelicte.

I see what you're saying, blue and high polish can make it a tad flashy. But you can definitely dress down with this watch without looking out of place. Most, if not, all of the professional line of Rolexes are very versatile.

I understand what you're saying... I went through a very similar thought process regarding the new Sub Ceramic.

The SubC has a little more shininess/bling than the pre-ceramic, which is why many on this board say its more jewelry than tool watch. However, after performing a couple sophisticated scientific observations , I came to the conclusion that this difference is only noticed when looking at the watch for at least 10 seconds at a distance of less than 12 inches.

Conclusion: No one else will think your watch is too dressy. They won't notice it at all. Its only your opinion after staring at the watch too long. Try not to let it affect your enjoyment of the piece. It's a unique and beautiful Rolex.

Style is ultimately your own creation. I love the blue dial YM and would wear it with anything. Don't get into your own head too much about it. Cheers.

Exactly.
It's in your head.. Not how others would judge. Some people, including myself have no issue walking around in casual outfit with solid gold on their wrists. I think you can with your YMII blue.

I would wear that YM blue dial on my underwear and still looks good.

Here are some alternatives to tone it done:
1. NATO strap
2. Toshi or Gunny strap (long lead time)
3. Everest leather strap with end links

Invest on a Bergeon 6825-ff tool and enjoy the strap madness.

I agree. It looks great dressed down. Don't get too caught up in the thoughts. The big difference between the YM and the sub is the PCLs which to me look great dressed up OR down. In fact, I think your YM is your most versatile piece. Now, if you no longer enjoy it... That's another story.

I think the YM goes well with pretty much anything. I do however wish the lugs were not polished.
