Get what works for you - they're both decent cars. I'm still trying to warm up to the new Lexus design language...

The spindle grill tends to be abrasive to some and a departure from its prior conservative looks.

I would get the Toyota and pocket the savings.....as somebody else said you could buy another Rolex with it. Im old and most new cars to me are all just FWD econocars in some form a fashion. You can go wrong with a Camry. My Neighbor across the street owns a chain of auto repair shops and is a Mustang freak like myself was telling how bad Nissan with CVT trans are and avoid them.

We were in a similar spot only with the Avalon. My wife test drove both in the hybrid trim. In the end she went with the Lexus. My brother on the other hand went from an Audi A8 to the Toyota Avalon. Personally I thought they were both nice but it was my wife's car so I stayed out of it. The big advantage for Lexus was Toyota said they wouldn't negotiate and didn't. Lexus said they would not and did. So in the end we only paid $2000 more for the Lexus then where the Toyota dealer was holding firm on the Avalon. If you're looking at the two you mentioned you should check out the Avalon as well. Fully loaded it's very close to the Lexus but you're also paying close to Lexus prices for a Toyota.

We just put a GS350 F sport in the garage tonight. Traded my wife's MDX. She wanted a car. She got a car.
We were Lexus people for a long time before the Acura. The GS is an incredible car. Just wish it was a GSF, and not a GS F sport. They had 2 at the dealer, could t get off of the extra $20k to go to the grocery store and middle school. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Skip the ES and check out the IS 200t or 350, or gs. With the IS you get a rwd chassis, not a rebadged Toyota. The latest gen IS350 has been acclaimed as superior to the latest generation BMW 3-Series in terms of handling dynamics and build quality. If your instinct is going with a Lexus, go for it.
I own a 2015 and it's a fantastic car. Yeah you can own another watch, but it sounds like you drive well above the average. I spend about two hours in my car everyday and having a smooth, quiet ride with all the gizmos makes my commutes actually tolerable. My friend has a 15 year old Lexus GS and honesty id even rather drive that than a brand new economy car. Those things are built to last... If you can see yourself driving it for 15 years, spend the extra money and enjoy it. |

Also, just an FYI, while the engine and trans in the V6 ES is shared with many toyota models, the IS / GS gets a much more powerful unit with direct & port injection and a much better 8-speed trans. I guess to answer your original question, I would not choose an ES over a Camry but would go for the IS / GS.

I just went from a 2014 Camry to a new Lexus ES 350. I don't think they are even close to comparable. Lexus tops in every way.

Thank you for the reassurance. I'm really happy with my ES350 even with the extra attention that it is getting. |
