Who here would prefer a stainless steel AP ROC over a gold Rolex or vice versa? And why? It seems like a gold Daytona or sub is not that much more in price .....

A lot of people have chosen steel APs over gold Rolexes for almost four and a half decades and counting.

Answer to your question is almost all AP owners have made that choice. Except for those with both of course! 👍

Those that "hate" AP have most likely never owned one or even tried one on.

Now as to your question I think they are comp!imentary to each other as most/many AP buyers already own a Rolex or several.

Don't compare watches on price as there will always be something more expensive. Buy what sings to you and enjoy. AP and Rolex are both great for any collection.

I am contemplating on trading my YG GMT2C for a PG AP ROO Rubberclad as we speak.

But will most likely keep the YG GMT2C. Service costs don't really bother me but the sheer size of the watch does!

I would never own an AP because I think that they are unattractive; doesn't mean that I "hate" them.

Pricing aside, I have not really found sport model APs to be technically better. I think pricing screws perception.

I basically did this. I was seriously considering a 116515 (I think the ref is correct, but the watch is the choco dial black ceramic Daytona in RG).

Also in the rubbings was a 116618 or 19.

Instead I went with an AP ROO.

I'm admittedly still in the honeymoon phase, but I absolutely love this watch. I couldn't be happier with my choice. What it's coming down to for aside from style and looks, was wearability. Although most would argue my ROO is physically not the more comfortable of said watches, but it's definitely the most versatile for my lifestyle.

I already have a few different OEM strap options and will likely move on a matching B bracelet soon. Anyway don't need to convince you, and I also admit 6 months from now you may be reading about me trading for a gold sub or something.

But for now I have no regrets.

This is a pretty vague comparison (any gold Rolex vs any ROC?) plus a steel ROC is significantly less expensive than an all-gold Rolex.

The first thing about any watch is its design and how
it looks esthetically ... And in those categories AP
Gets a fail "F" from me ... IMHO ... A great brand
with outstanding engineering and craftsmanship but
their designs are not for everyone ...

A steel roc goes anywhere from 17.5-20 BNIB depending who u buy from. A gold sub for example goes anywhere from 21-24 Gold Daytona on bracelet 17-25 again depending on the model and wg or yg

Never heard someone say an AP is unreliable!

AP all day. AP gets you into the next club.

I have both Rolex and AP so I am talking from both sides.

I really love the ROC and I've been very close to buying one in the past. But I just can't get over a few silly things. Mainly it not having an in-house movement. I know it's silly, but for the money there are a lot of fantastic alternatives out there with in-house movements. Like a Gold Daytona. So I'd vote gold Rolex if I could from Tapatalk.

Btw... My AP is very accurate and the service from the AP service center is fantastic. If you are servicing a perpetual calendar or a vintage piece, sure it's expensive, but typical maintenance and service is affordable. Despite some of the already suggested claims.
