Will Rolex Replace the 'Dwarf' Hands on the Explorer?
I don't think so but they should IMO. It was a design flaw and they have admitted. If you think about it, it's worse than the low mag cyclops since this flaw was not their clear choice but the short hands were. The Explorer still available can lose it's value and Rolex will leave their customers 'short-handed' (lousy intentional pun) if they don't work this out. What's your take on this?

I missed the press release on their admitted design flaw. Can you provide a link?
Updating a watch doesn't mean there was a design flaw. I guess my Tudor Black Bay has another design flaw by this logic, as the movement was just replaced in new model. All Daytonas should get the new ceramic bezel? Another flaw? I don't get the logic.

I'd love for it to be a service option but don't see it happening.
I have 2 Rolexes - an Ex 1 and a Daytona... it's like they were gunning for me this year |

Would be nice if we could pay to have them swapped during service, but I doubt they will be allowing it while they still have the "old" style in stock.

Conspicuously short minute hand on the Exp1 it could be argued is a design flaw because 1. a lot of people made the observation when it was introduced 2. Rolex "fixed" it with the new model. Same goes with the non-lune 3,6,9 markers on the dial. For what is meant to be a "tool watch", omitting the lume is maybe not a design flaw but more of an oversight. All this, of course, imho. |

We've been discussing here for ages and the short hands were always considered a design flaw. Not by everyone of course. I get your point and maybe I should have used IMHO or something, so IMHO it was a flaw and they have admitted. I'd like to hear opinions on what will they do. |

I would be very upset if they changed my watch to new bloated hands or changed my dial to the new garish lume on the 3-6-9. I think the point is, in reading a bit more, that they did not change the model number. So on that score, I get what you are talking about.

If the watch had a design flaw that you detest, then don't buy it. If you already bought it, why did you buy it?

Oh God, I hope so. I mentioned that earlier in the Air-King thread. The new AK has the correct size Mercedes hands so let's hope now that they've done the tooling they'll put it to good use!

No one said it's bad looking. I always liked the 214270 even with short hands. However, if they changed the hands and kept the same model number many owners can feel they now own 'an inferior watch'. Is that possible? Sure. So I'm asking opinions if Rolex will let the owners replace the handset on a service for example. Just that. And IMO they should.

This is the most ridiculous thread I've seen here in a while.
Design flaw? Recall? I wonder If I can get the new body style on my Porsche, since the old one was obviously a mistake. I mean, why else would they have changed it if they weren't wrong in the first place? I demand free stuff! It's owed to me because I bought an upscale product!! rant ends..... |

No they shouldn't replace them. Good grief, anyone that bought something as is gets what they bought. Like the longer hands? Then buy a new Explorer. If you're going to make statements you should be prepared to back them up. I would also like to read for myself or watch video of any Rolex representative stating the older hands were a flaw.
