The 116520 became a classic in its own time.
The 116500 will do the same. |

I am absolutely hooked on late 70's early 80's daytonas with the black bezels. Aside from the DJ, these older daytonas define the brand (to non watch guys). The old ones are very pricey and wanting a few other pieces I might have to set aside my vintage desire for the new modern piece with the vintage feel. No matter how you slice it the new piece is poised for success. I currently have a black face Daytona in the collection.

They both look nice. It's like buying a Porsche 911 in silver or white.

Is the SS bracelet the exact same on the old and new? Looks much more shiny on the older Daytona.. maybe its just been beat up and worn?

I would have much preferred the look of a steel bezel with a ceramic bezel insert with bezel style calibrations as per 116520. That really would have been the new 6263.

I never really wanted a SS Daytona and passed on one recently. But the white face ceramic is stunning. I am on the list at my AD. Can't wait to get one!

To me they are actually quite different looks, I could see someone owning one of each. To me the classic is more versatile, though the only ceramic bezel I've seen that I liked was the sub. I traded for a black classic over the weekend

Does anyone know the official issue date for the Ceramic bezel daytona in the UK? No dealers committing or allowing waiting lists!...... unless some one knows more than I do ... not difficult!

Not in UK but my AD across the pond can only speculate late summer. Rolex treats everyone like mushrooms. Keep em in the dark and feed em sh!t.

Wow the original definitely looks more classier but both look great. Ive had the SS Daytona twice and it has always been my quickest flipper.
1) Bezel is a scratch magnet. 2) No date but we know that already. 3) Little on the small side compared to most of what I've owned in the last 5 years. 4) Protruding sharp edged sapphire crystal chips easily. I hope with the new ceramic 1 and 4 will be met but from the pics it still looks like the crystal still sticks out. With the Ceramic subs Rolex finally leveled the crystal with the bezel a bit so it doesn't get chipped as easily. Im on the list for the new Dayton's but I'm trying to ask myself is it for the hype or do I really want I lol. |

I like the look of the ceramic Daytona. I'll get one the first chance I get, which, from the demand, might be 5 years from now. Plenty of time for me to change my mind

I thought I would like the new one more but when I see them in the same photo like that, I actually prefer the classic steel bezel daytona.
I wish the daytonas looked better on leather straps which have been my preference since I caught the panerai bug in 2010 |

Chaps
Everyone has differing tastes so asking what watch looks the best is a bit nebulous to say the least. I am a very dull and boring person and have a tendency to traditional tastes but I have to say the ceramic Daytona is an instant classic, it is the sort of watch some men would sell their wives and daughters for. I currently own a 16520 but the ceramic tramples all over it. The only caveat is that possibly we are all making the mistake of making a decisionbased on photographs. Until you have seen the watch in the flesh and preferably on your wrist, it is wise to reserve judgement. Regards Mick |

daytona vs daytona C
I think the new Daytona is getting a lot of buzz and for good reason. It will bring many new people into being interested in Rolex and the Daytona. Style is very subjective. The new version certainly has its fans!
I purchased a new black dial Daytona stainless bezel 116520 last year after waiting a while. This year I was in the market for a white dial version (as I got rid of my other white dial Daytona as it was used and didn't have my name on the card) and I heard of the new ceramic one being introduced ... and I've seen it. I did like it but really was disappointed and wished I could get the old white dial version of the 116520 new and in my name. I started looking and I did not find any, contrary to what people were saying on this thread... It is not easy getting a brand new non ceramic Daytona from an AD. I called a few AD's and the common response was, "no more... they stopped making them and thus stopped shipping them as it has been replaced by the ceramic bezel version". I kept calling my favorite AD, Geary's in Los Angeles and after a month or so of them saying no way..., they got 2 in!! A black dial and a white dial! I bought the white dial this week, and a buddy bought the black dial at the same time. We are both super happy!! Perhaps the ceramic will grown on me but I cannot be happier with the classic versions. I am hearing a lot about scratches on the stainless bezel but mine is perfect and I'm not that careful with it. It does smudge but a quick wipe and it looks like a million bucks again. I'll throw on a beater Explorer II or something if I'm pounding nails or playing ball... The Daytona's are are for crusin' and going out!! :-)

The new one is definitely a lot more sporty and Tag Heuer looking... There is probably a reason they skipped ceramic on the gold and TT versions as a metal bezel looks more dressy and suits these models and thier overall look well. Having said that I do like the rose gold ceramic as it works nicely with the leather strap. I do think a lot of Rolex models are all starting to look the same now though from a distance, black face, black bezel, identical SS bracelet. Before I got into Rolex I honestly could not notice the difference between a Sub and GMT. Now I'm a little more knowledgeable. The Daytona has always been quite a dressy watch and one of Rolex's most flashy designs.

For black it's a wash between the 116500 and 116520, but both look a little better than the Zenith.
For white, the 116500 and Zenith look comparably good, but both are better than the 116520. |

I personally think these are 2 very different watches in many ways. The 116520 being the "classic" daytona and the ceramic being the SPORT version.
I definately like both, particularly the white ceramic with black subdials.
