I think many of them are confused the reason Black Bay 36 is even named Black Bay and should have been named something else(including me). Do you think its the same dial, hands, markers and possibly case from the older 41mm to new 36 version? 36 does have a flatter crystal compared to domed one on 41mm and a smaller crown(should have been more smaller). So, basically the same watch minus the bezel? Hence the association with the name of Black Bay? Your thoughts?

I like the watch, but agree it should be called something else. Without the bezel, what does it really have to do with their diver models of the past that the Black Bay is modeled after?

Marketing probably wanted to tie in to the success of the Black Bay in launching a new model.

It's not a BB in my eyes. It's quite a nice looking watching in its own right, but it is not a BB. You'd think the people at Tudor would have thought of something better.

I agree with the OP, and in following your reasoning how is the Explorer called over at the Tudor side ? The Ranger !

IMO, this is what the Heritage Ranger should have looked like, but I guess the name was already taken...

We can call it Shirley for all I care, it is still a wonderful watch in its own right. I would certainly buy one !

I love the size! 36mm is my favorite but makes me feel strange... Is like looking the BBB without insert...rare!

Actually I like that. Without the insert makes the dial appear bigger. Guess will have to see a live one first (just hope it's not as thick as BB41).

A few good points:

- BB36 is a good catchy name so we don't need to come up with some silly nickname
- seems like Tudor kept the same bracelet (not the riveted one)
- smaller crown (proportionate to the case)

You're over thinking this.

It's a field watch in the style of the Black Bay, from which it takes it's name.

It's size will appeal to those who are tired of huge watches, but are still attracted to a highly visible dial with a nod to Tudor's past.

I'm not. I think you didn't read past the first line. I posted my question and then answered it with my understanding why its named one.

More pertinent question in my post was - if its the same dial, hands as of 41? which no one seems to answer or give thoughts about.

It could well be. The dial of the 41mm BB is around 30-31mm. The BB dial is slightly domed, hard to tell if the BB36 one is too.

Something tells me that even though this is a 36 mm, I think that it will fit like a 38.5 or even a 40 mm. Just compare visually the 2 pics. Yes it will be smaller than the Black Bay Blue pic but not by much. I even think that the bracelet is a 20 mm size bracelet.

BB36 is just 10.25mm thick compared to BB41's 12.7 thickness!

As long as it's smaller I'm happy. BB41 was pushing it for me.

- love it but I like the larger Heritage Ranger even more as I have gotten used to the bigger watches (but 43mm may just be too much...)

BB36 Bezel is smooth as Explorer, Milguass and not 'domed' as OP 39.
On the official site, its written as - Smooth steel bezel, polished finish
