About to pull trigger on SD4000 but OCD acting up
Hi,
First off, I apologise as I'm likely to sound quite anal. Just wanted a quick check on whether what I noticed is normal as this is going to be a significant acquisition for me. So, I was at the shop today looking to purchase a Rolex diver. My first choice is the SD4000 (though I admit I'm quite smitten with the Sub-C as well). Checking it under the loop, I noticed that the date doesn't seem to be quite centered (it sits slightly high when showing '20'. I didn't get to test it on other dates). That said, it could very well be perfectly normal for this model. For those of you with the SD4000, would you mind having a look to see if it's normal? Here's a photo of what I observed and also a photo of the whole face. Appreciate any thoughts as I hope to return to the store tomorrow. Thanks! |

Looks fine to me. I own an SD4K.
I think the shadow from the dial may be skewing your view.

"Checking it under the loop" why? these watches are mass produced and I promise u if u look hard enough u will find something, there isn't a perfect Rolex. Your robbing yourself of a wonderful experience. Own your watch don't let it own u.

It's a loupe, not a "loop." If you're really scrutinizing over whether the date is a fraction of a millimeter too high, then I don't know how you'll survive your watch's first scratch.

Loupe, not loop.
And, no, it is not a douche move to correct spelling. The person may not actually know the proper spelling, so this is of help for them going forward. |

imho 116600 is better and more balanced than 116610. You are OCD indeed so get over the disorder and buy it ;)

If you think the "20" is sitting too high, you should probably test the other dates and see if they bother you, too. If you can possibly compare it to another Sea-Dweller, you can tell if you're just being overly-cautious or not :)

Thanks for the replies fellas. Yes, I do get quite anal before making a major purchase and yup, that includes checking the watch under a loupe. After all, isn't all that money supposed to net us a fine luxury watch that can stand up to scrutiny? Else, why the hefty price tag right? I own other similarly priced watches and I'm aware that none of them are perfect but I'd like to know what exactly I'm paying for before buying, if that makes any sense. If the imperfections are something I can accept, I'll proceed. If not, I'll walk away. I don't look them over under a loupe after it's purchased because that would just torturing myself.
Yup, it does appear this is normal for this model. I found another photo of the same model showing '20' in the same position. Cheers. |

Yes, looks fine to me.
As mentioned, mass produced time piece - there are threads about people agonizing on how the top of the bezel does not line up perfectly with 12:00. To be honest, not sure you'd see it perfectly centered even on a Patek for all 31 days...and I have a much higher expectation with them. |

Why take a loupe out to look at the date of the one Rolex which has no loupe on its date? You may prefer something with a cyclops.
