Why does it seem that Audmars Piguet are more expensive than Rolex?
Why are AP's ridiculously more expensive than Rolex?? Is it the hip hop/celebrity status that has made AP what it is? Will the popularity of AP drop? I'll always be a Rolex man, but when I was in Vegas last weekend. I couldn't believe the prices at the AP store in the Crystal's mall.

Much less supply of AP's than Rolex and they have a higher prestige (reputation wise) as a true high end watchmaker....nearer to A Langhe & PP etc.

Why is your question aimed at AP? Why not include Patek, Breguet, Hublot or VC?
I notice you edited your post to include: "I'll always be a Rolex man, but when I was in Vegas last weekend. I couldn't believe the prices at the AP store in the Crystal's mall." .

Stay out of the Patek store. God forbid you enter the Richard Mille or Greubel Forsey store

Contrary to what you may believe, Rolex is not at the top of the price range in Horology.
Big misconception, but since Rolex is at the top for marketing and brand recognition the general public assumes they are the end all be all. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk |

When I was in Vegas last week, it seemed 70% of the players at the bj & craps tables had AP's on. I don't know if they were real or not. Didn't see any other watches.

In the Horological hierarchy
I feel that Rolex are like a BMW, sub = 3 series, Daytona = 5 series, PM= 7 series. Of course you can get the DSSD as your X5 AP are more like a Bentley, more prestigious and more exclusive PP are the Rolls Royce of watches Lange are the Aston Martins Richard Mille are the Bugatti Veyron |

More limited supply, hence more exclusive, better dial and case finishing, better movement decoration etc..
For the above reasons, people willing to pay more for it then Rolex. That is also true of other haute horology brands. |

One advantage of the Rolex is its international recognition and it's quick turnover on the grey market. Once I have reached my collection goal of 6 Rolexes, I will probably start trading in for an AP and a Lange.

I used to be all about Rolex. Then I screwed up and bought a 15400. Last week I bought a ROO 44mm SS. Now I'm in big trouble because next is a Patek. I hate this hobby.

Well, AP has been around longer, is owned by its original families, and does higher end watch movements/finishing/complications. I'm sure you can add some other things in, but those are just a couple reasons why AP is more expensive than Rolex. |

Why is Rolex more expensive than tag? Same reasons apply to Rolex vs AP.
I always wonder why people say that go from Rolex to AP then to Patek and finally RM. At first I thought about going down this path but AP really has two levels of watches. Their entry level RO and ROOs and then their perpetual calendars, tourbillons, concepts, grand comps, etc. I've tried to get a Patek but I like sport watches so Patek does nothing for me and while I love RM I would rather have a schumi lap timer or ROO tourbillon chrono over an RM. Both movements are made by APRP and AP has a way stronger history and will be in business and independent much longer. |
