because AP is one of the BIG 3 swiss watchmakers aka 'the holy trinity'

How do you think you guys will do in the Euros next week? We are a bit confident this year, we have a few good attacking players.

Their entry level RO and ROOs and then their perpetual calendars, tourbillons, concepts, grand comps, etc. I've tried to get a Patek but I like sport watches so Patek does nothing for me and while I love RM I would rather have a schumi lap timer or ROO tourbillon chrono over an RM. Both movements are made by APRP and AP has a way stronger history and will be in business and independent much longer.
I used to think in a similar vein as you do. After getting my first AP ROC 26320 I changed my mind. It is a high end sports watch, the finishing is immaculate, polished and brushed. The styling is also more classic. The price point is the same as my TT YM2 and in my view quite a lot more stylish and timeless.

For PP I am mad into the Nautlius series. Like yourself, I am into sports watches so the grand complications or ALS Grand Lange 1 does not have quite the same pull for me. But I do think that one dress watch is necessary in any collection. I would go with the Grand Lange 1 with moon phase in platinum.

I dislike RM, quite intensely. They are innovative which is great, but I prefer the timelessness of Rolex, AP, ALS and PP. Those are my top 4 brands.

Although the Seiko credor Fugaku tourbillion is now my ultimate Grail watch. We can dream after all.

PP are the Rolls Royce of watches
Lange are the Aston Martins
Richard Mille are the Bugatti Veyron
Great analogy Ed. I wonder whether RM is more Pagani Zonda than Veyron. Then Greubel Forsey can snap up the Veyron tag?

Outsourced engines from the best builders and a stunning carbon case? Sounds like a zonda to me

Wow! Credor is one gorgeous watch! A true work of art. With a hefty 600K price tag.

Well to be honest, It's been some time I have been disgusted by the players and their behavior, Ribery was an awful jerk, Benzema and others also, refusing to sing the national anthem for one, so I absolutely don't support in any way the french team, so I would much prefer the english or spanish to win, I liked the germans before but was disgusted when they did a 7-1 against Brazil in the last world championship in Brazil, that was shameful, a 3-1 would have been enough, in any case I don't think 1 second we stand a chance, might be wrong but hope not... Yeah I know I'm a bad frenchman, but I lived almost half my life out of France, can't stand what my country has become to be honest...

Why does it seem that Audmars Piguet are more expensive than Rolex?

AP > Rolex

Check out the finish sided by side.

No comparison.

I personally think the trinity is PP, AP, and ALS... though VC is still up there I just feel ALS has done more to move the bar in the past years than VC... maybe this will chance as Richemont moves it's focus to VC..

For the above reasons, people willing to pay more for it then Rolex. That is also true of other haute horology brands.
The ones I've seen did not impress me over Rolex or omega as far as dials or case finishing. Not whatsoever.

VC did make a 57 complication watch, though if not counting this I totally agree with you

The intricate detailing of the tapisserie dials are more impressive than Rolex's mostly flat ones, altho Rolex's sunburst colours are more dynamic.

Well I have 2 Omega, and had 4 Rolex, and I have a black ceramic AP diver, maybe it's me who is crazy, but I seem to have noticed a little edge on AP's side

Folks, we are talking about luxury goods! Is there really ANY logic other than people actually pay what these companies are asking for? Yes, the finishing is higher on an AP. Yes, the finishing may be EVEN higher on a Patek. But, not sure that there this is enough to justify the price difference. The gap is because they can!
