AD lied, Daytona C madness...

I made a visit to the AD I have spent the most amount of money with and put myself on the waiting list for the Daytona C in black. When I spoke with my sales associate, I was promised that I was number one. I made sure she double checked with her manager and any other sales associate so that there was no confusion. I have purchased about 8 PM pieces in the last 12 months including two PPs, so I'm definitely one of their best, if not favorite clients.

I was told that I did not need to put down a deposit, but I put down $1k because I felt that putting down money solidified our "agreement." The agreement was that I would get the first black dial Daytona C to arrive at the store, with the option to buy a white dial if that came first.

I've seen all of these incomings the last couple of weeks and have not heard from them and started to get a little suspicious.

So Saturday morning as I was waiting for a friend at breakfast, I noticed the guy at the table next to me was wearing a black dial Daytona C, and he had a bag from my AD at the table! I asked him about the piece and after a couple minutes of chatting, he revealed that he had indeed purchased it from them!!! He showed me his warranty card and yep, their store name was on it!

I called the store on Monday to ask about the status of my watch and they said "We are still waiting to receive the first one."

I'm mixed with emotions right now and not sure what I should do. Part of me is turned off from this whole deal and the other part feels like a long standing business relationship is done. The other part of me feels this is just a watch and there are much more important things in life, get over it lol.

Ouch.

I'd pay them a visit. Never know, maybe your sales person didn't know it came and went? Always a story, but I'd pay them a visit and ask. Calmly, no need to throw a fit, but I'd want to know the deal.

Good luck.

I'd definitely inquire in a professional manner. Don't think too much of it, perhaps they have yours waiting in the back.

I would be livid if I was you, especially being the type of customer you are. What did you say when they responded that they are still waiting for the first one to arrive.
You have them by the 'b-lls' and I would not let them off the hook.
It just does not make any sense because you are exactly the customer they should service with the first one. keep us posted.

Can you PM me the AD?

I feel your pain! I swung by my local AD (purchased multiple Rolex watches and Breitlings). Asked the status of the DaytonaCs and where I was on the list, and they told me that I wasn't on the list...after I had put my name on the list weeks ago!

Makes one wonder what this other guy bought or who he knows to step in front of you.....yeah, definitely confront the AD....calmly as possible and see what they say. Play your cards right and you might still get the watch soon and have a little extra on the side.

8 PM models in a year including two PP's... wonder how much the other guy spent!
Do they have only have one store so he definitely got it from yours?
Give them a call, tell them what happened, call them out on it.
Best of luck

Well...I've always believed that honesty is the best policy. I believe I would have a conversation with the store personnel with that in mind. Good luck,

No, this would not sit okay with me and would cause me to question every subsequent dollar I would spend with them.

It's a matter of RESPECT. To them, they already had one sold. But once one came in-house, it was able to be sold to someone that was not you...knowing full well that the "second" would be paid by you upon the next delivery. Terrible business practice, and I would do nothing more than call them out on it, in a gentleman's fashion, and politely inform them that I will find another AD that will treat me fairly and honestly (since apparently this isn't going on here).

This is of course contingent upon the fact that you were in fact promised #1 and there wasn't some gross oversight in communication :)

What a coincidence running into that guy.
It sounds like they don't value your business, tell them to kick rocks.

I would call and matter-of-factly ask them to clarify the agreement because it appears somebody else had obtained it before you. Unless you can obtain the watch elsewhere, you might end up having to grin & bear it.

I can't blame you for being turned off. If it was me I would speak politely to the manager and kindly ask for my deposit back. This might give the impression that you are done buying from them, and they might resolve the situation quicker than you thought.

It is just a watch at the end of the day, and it is not worth "flipping out" over.

I wouldn't call but pay them a visit, very calmly have a nice talk with the manager and not a salesperson asking if they didn't value your business of 8 PM models over the last year.

Would like to see your collection though. You know what they say, pictures or it didn't happen ;-)

I would hit the gym, cool off, then head over and ask to speak to the manager. Tell him/her what transpired and ask politely why your agreement was breached. If you don't like the answer, ask for your deposit back and never spend another dollar in there again. BUT, do post their name if that's the case so we can all stop by and kick tires in our spare time

Not cool.

If they told u that u r first, then u should be first.
On top of that, they have the audacity to tell u they r still waiting for one.
Hahaha

I would just wait for ur DaytonaC to come in (better than getting on another waiting list)... Pay for it (since there are no discount anyways)... Let them know what happened, and that they lost u as a customer.

Then walk out and never return.

Also if u don't mind, share the name of this AD

Strategy is simple, as of Royal repeat customer will get it later then the new clients. Stores has to move their old inventory. I'm sure you will get one eventually, just be patient.

Jesus man you have spent well over $100,000 with them and they pull that stunt. I would phone them and speak directly to the manager/owner, calmly and politely state what you discovered and that you do not appreciate the situation. At the very least I guarantee that you get the next one.

OP you are an extremely nice fella. It would take me at least 24 hours just to calm down. Unfortunately I'm sure I would have paid them a visit before the 24 hours ran out. Please let us know how this turns out. I'm really sorry this happened to you. It's most certainly not about a watch at this point.

As other have said be cool and calm, but definitely address it. You're a serious and loyal customer and should be treated as such. Tell them politely that you're upset and there are dozens of other places to bring your business.

See what they say and how they respond. You might be pleasantly surprised, and if not, there literally are dozens of other options for you. Keep us updated and best of luck to you!

I would demand discount on the Daytona as they deceived you. They are obviously free to do business as they see fit, but then I would inform them that they have lost your business forever.
