As an owner of the SD I can only say I think the DSSD is way to big and bordering on ugly. I wouldnt even wear one if it was free.

I think there might be one or two people out there trying to hate this watch because they are not going to have it. I nearly bought a SD 4000 at the beginning of this year but waited to see if an updated version was being launched at Basel. I'm glad I waited and am top of the list at my AD. I don't think anyone can fault the bezel, bracelet, clasp...everyone wanted a SD with maxi dial and ceramic bezel. Lots of people wanted a bigger Rolex. This watch is large for Rolex ( by 4 whole mm ) but only a medium size watch in most jewelers next to Pan, Breitling, Omega, etc. If i'd bought the SD 4000 I would probably be saying how ugly the new one is. People do this all the time with cars too. People who have recently bought the outgoing Audi A4 now find things to dislike about the new one. Too many sour grapes will give you indiigestion.

Amen.

I also have a strange feeling when more & more 'haters' start seeing the DS in the flesh they will be converts...of course, by then, I'm sure they will conveniently forget how much trash they once spoke about the watch and start conversations with, "I always thought this was going to be an amazing watch...even before it came out I knew it was going to be unique..."

Personally, I don't get the level of hatred...it's almost like the DS stole some people's HS sweetheart. Rolex has a few models that I wouldn't be caught dead in, but on the other hand I realize some people love them and that's great. I don't feel the need to trash them as I realize beauty, form, function & taste are truly in the eye of the beholder. To each his/her own.

In the end I could care less if the vast majority hate the DS...to be honest I would rather own a watch the sheep don't lust over...just makes it all the better IMO as I won't have to worry about seeing my watch on every Joe's wrist. Cheers.
