3186 Odd Sound + Stopped

My trusty GMT IIc has stopped, won't start with a 40 - 50 winding. Noticed rotor sounds as though it is freely rotating. My initial assumption is the Parachrom spring has broken. Any experiance by others members ?

The Parachrom spring is in the escapement at the complete opposite end of the gear train from the power (main) spring. It is unlikely to ever break as it never actually sees compression stresses..

As mentioned, it sounds like your mainspring may be broken, or at least disconnected. Give it a few shakes and see if the seconds hand takes a tick forward or backward. If it does that means it's not really connected to anything - broken mainspring.
