I like the overall looks of most of the Rolex line. I'm gonna guess part of the reason for your friend's comment is the lack of the classic looking dress watch in the Rolex branded line. But throw in Celini and booyah! Especially the new ones, they're beautiful.

Yes, a SD4000 and a Prince. I've also owned four other models. I like Rolex, they are my favourite brand. But I also like Mercedes and I don't think they are the most handsome cars.
You can like something without believing it to be flawless. And things are of course subjective. That doesn't mean people can't have interesting opinions. Without subjectivity we could only chat about mathematics and logic. Everything fun in life is subjective |

Rolex makes great looking watching watches, especially if you're comparing them to dogs like AP and Panerai. Those are ugly watches.
Oh, and how did I forget Breitling? Those things are awful looking. |

I wouldn't buy them if I didn't find them pleasing in some way.

I personally think they look great.. Rolex understands that they don't have to be intentionally flashy, but let they eye get caught on the attention to detail and high level craftsmanship.
If you are into Rolex's you notice them, if you aren't, they they look just like another watch.. The steel models aren't imposing and attention drawing like some other manufacturers. |

Looks are subjective; however I will say that brand cachet does have some influence over whether people like the look of models within the rolex lineup. The extent of that influence varies according to the person.

100% subjective and depending on each person's taste and style. Eye of beholder. The thing with Rolex is that it also a status symbol, a tool watch, investment, etc, which get factored into the purchase decision But "good looking watch?" ....depends on the person ~ BruceTheManLee |

I think they do or I wouldn't own them. Do they make the best looking watches? No not in my opinion. Taste is of course subjective and we all have our own preferences. I love Rolex for what they are and they are the foundation of my collection.

Yes, Rolex makes good looking watches. But the design variation is very tight.
The Sub, Explorer 2, GMT Master II, Sea Dweller and Yacht Master all are basically the same watch from a dial design perspective with slight variations. Pure marketing genius that they have extended that single design to such a "diverse" offering. Add in 2nd design dial = Date Just, OP, Day Date, Milgauss. Add the 3 odd balls - Daytona, Yacht Master II and Skydweller.. That pretty much defines the Rolex line. I wish they would offer more variety. (I would hate being a watch designer at Rolex.). |

Yes, that is why there are so many copy-cats that don't hesitate to put their name on Rolex-inspired designs.
Submariner, Day Date, Daytona and Datejust are in their own leagues. The simplicity is what makes these watches classic, good-looking and iconic at the same time. |

No way I'd drop $12k on a watch that isn't "good looking" and I'm absolutely a car nut, no way I'd drive a car that doesn't look good somehow. For me that is the problem with the new C63s, boring looking, so guess what, pass.
I can be with a girl because she treats me nice, she cooks for me, makes me laugh, personality, big boobs, nice body....but maybe she isn't "attractive"....there's more to people than just looking good. ...but a Rolex, a simple three hand watch? It looks gorgeous, if it didn't, no matter how good it cooked or how much it made me laugh, I wouldn't drop $9k on it, that's just me. Also, someone stated it in plain english in the best way, you don't get to be timeless, iconic, or classic without being good looking. That in essence is why Rolex divers are what they are today, timeless, masculine and attractive watches oft copied industry wide. Your friend is tripping or just trying to sound "cool" as is if posing a conundrum, just stahhhp.... |

Very subjective. I wouldn't say they make beautiful watches, such as a JLC Reverso; neither would I say they make eye-catching watches such as the Royal Oak; or stunning watches such as the Nautilus. But...they use great design principles which are proven across the range by how little they've changed over the years.
I'd take design over looks every day and twice on a Sunday.
