Do you wish you had never gotten rid of...
Any possession that you wish you hadn't sold? Why?
Mine hits me often these days: Selling my 1972 Violin. It was a nice instrument and one I had played for several years when I was a kid. I hauled it around through adulthood, through several moves. Finally sold it to a music store for $50 about 10 years ago. The same music store now sells similar models for $1,300. My old one would qualify as vintage now and would have the richer tone aquired over the years. When I sold it I didn't think I would ever want to have kids. Now I have three. They would have had fun playing on it, and maybe one of them would have gotten serious with it. Shame. My husband has a big regret, too: Selling his old black S.G. guitar. He still moans about it - or says, "don't remind me!" |

The only thing I ever remember selling was a treadmill that we bought for about $600. We used it for about 3 months and then it sat in our home office for about 4 years taking up space. A friend who had suffered a mild heart attack needed it to get back into shape. I gladly sold it to him for $100.
Never regretted that sale for a minute. Everything else is either down in the basement, up in the attic, or lying around on the floor. In other words, we don't get rid of anything.

Great idea for a thread.
I wish I still had my 2001 Harley Davidson Fatboy - it was my first Harley and I bought it while my Dad was terminally ill so we could do some motorcycle rides together before he passed away. I sold it when he could no longer ride due to his tumor and he was deeply saddened that I sold it. I miss him and the motorcycle. I have since bought another Fatboy, but it is not the same - it does not have the memories the other one had Sean

My first wife as she is still a looker and low maintenance!. I traded her in for a high-end sports car model and I could not afford the tune-ups.

When I was a kid my grandmother gave me a cloth pouch with about 20 silver 1/2 dollar coins. After leaving home (suddenly) and hitting bottom I ended up in Maine and I hocked them at a pawn shop in Lewiston.
All these years later and that's my regret. I'm sure it wasn't worth it.

I'm a bit of a pack rat so I haven't really sold anything. Come to think of it I need to sell this house and buy a bigger one for all my stuff. I hope I don't regret it.

Lisa, like your husband I too regret selling my original 1965 Gibson SG Standard.
I sold it 10 yrs. ago and to purchase one similar in condition (mine was mint) would cost thousands now. Looking back now really hurts and I kick myself everytime a thread like this comes up. Linky Live and learn!

Sold an Alto Sax, I played in band as a kid a "King brand" Alto Sax. I was somewhat sad about selling it as the years past. Reality hit and it would have just sat in the closet as I don't play the Sax much anymore. Unless you were going to use the Violin often it may have sat in the closet as well. You have good thoughts about the Violin and the times you used it and in the end that's what counts in my mind.

I don't sell anything, but I throw/give away EVERYTHING! Everytime I clean up stuff, I get rid of everything that I haven't used in months...
I cannot think of anything I regret though I guess I'm not really attached to material stuff...

Should have kept my 77 Harley Cafe Racer. Only made for 2 years 77, and 78. A couple of thousand made. Willie G'S PRODUCT. Developed a tranny leak and didn't have the extra $$$$$ 20 years ago to fix it. They're worth alot of dough now. Never seen another one on the road, just in museums!!!

Ten 1 ounce American Gold Eagles that I paid $288 each in 1999 and sold for $310 each in late 2000.
Worse yet, I purchase $3,000 of Nasdaq 100 QQQ shares with the proceeds. |
