any men here carry a messenger bag?
If so what brand do you wear? I was going to get a Louis Vuitton briefcase off eBay, but it seems far too formal for my endeavors and fairly small as well as 2-3x my budget used minimum. I was thinking about a victorinox one since I will mainly be carrying it while I bike and I could use it with my other victorinox luggage, but I kind of want leather as well. I've never bought any leather new other than from coach, but lately I have been unimpressed with quality and price is excessive.
No sexist remarks needed/tolerated. Just curious if any other TRFers carry a messenger bag or have any recommendations. Something that could be used as a book bag would win extra points as I'm a college student as well. Going more for utilitarian use than luxury to start out. Can always upgrade down the road. I guess I should put a price range, probably $100-250. |

Funny thread because I JUST (last month) purchased one myself. Sick of holding all my stuff when I go out to my car etc. Still not sure if I like the idea yet because in my mind its still a very feminine thing but I think I need to get over that. So I went with a cheap Amazon canvas bag first to see if I can get used to it or not.

Tumi has a few. Well made. Great rep for durability. And the ballistic nylon does not say feminine to me at all.
I just bought this Alpha 2 brief/laptop case and it comes with a shoulder strap that would be good for a bike. But their messenger cases look pretty handy too. |

I carried a nylon messenger bag daily for two years when I was a bike messenger in London in the 1980s. Never wore out. Other than that, I had quite a nice Timberland one a few years ago, canvas and leather.

I had a leather one for school but I don't much use it anymore. Picked it up from banana republic for about 100 bucks iirc. I would check out tumi, maybe j crew.

I grabbed one from Tumi yesterday at lunch. I'm going to use it as a small gym bag.
price was around 370 USD. item name is "foster messenger". I'd imagine that a lightly used one would be less than 250. this is the bag packed with sneakers and a towel Sent from my SM-G9200 using Tapatalk |

I have been carrying this RL Polo bag for years. Works great for work and travel. Tough as nails. It will outlive me...tried many brief cases and bags before this but this is the one I really like.

Checkout WaterField designs, they make pretty cool messengers bags.
I myself always use one when I fly, just too much stuff to carry. Also for some reason I feel more comfortable wearing it when I travel abroad than at home. Tumi is what I wear. |

This one really encompasses what I want, what's the model # and MSRP if you don't mind me asking? I was thinking tumi as well but price us definitely a factor there. The foster messenger is reminiscent of the Victorinox I tried on. Although I can get the victorinox 50% off its $210 msrp b/c its last years model

Thanks. I can't find a model number. It's been a few years since I bought it. If I remember it was around $1000. I have not seen them on the Polo site so probably discontinued. It has a detachable laptop holder and a carry strap. The inside has a divider and pen and other pockets. The front flap pockets are great. All around excellent bag that looks good, will last and is super functional. I was looking for a smaller companion bag a while back and saw some similar on eBay. Sent using the "Force"

My Eagle Creek is a model that they do not make any more. Too bad, too. Incredibly simple, but tough. Not a luxe item. Somewhere between camping equipment and urban wear. Small, too. A shoulder bag that could maybe fit a 13" MacBook Pro.
Now, if I had to replace it, all they offer is this. --> http://shop.eaglecreek.com/satchel-b...CategoryId=343 |

Look at Hedgren also. Seems cheaper than Tumi. Never had one fail. Great and light. Leather is way heavier than anything nylon.

I have a bunch of LV messenger bags for work. Does the trick as it fits my passport, wallet, IPad, Mac Air, headphones and chargers perfectly.

Tons of options. Timbuktu is hard to beat in your stated budget. Given your more specific requirements, 5.11 and Maxpedition are good bets too if you're alright with the camo and MOLLE strap look. There is a lot of discussion of these types of bags on the EDC forums, where people are very helpful in terms of posting photos of what they carry daily and how they organize their bags. I personally like Tom Bihn for my daily carry and travel carry-on bags. They are well built, have great organization, and come in both understated and bold colors depending on one's tastes.

This is the right answer. Their stuff is incredible and their customer service is unbelievable. Their satchel is probably about the right size for what you need. May be a little over budget, but you will never buy another one. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
