5512 Case with 5513 Caseback?

Dearest Vintage Rolex Erudites,

I've come across a great looking 5513 (or is it 5512.) But as the title portends, the case is stamped as a 5512 yet the caseback is stamped 5513. Is this normal or something to be worried about? Any insights would be greatly helpful.

Cheers

Post some pics and we can help you determine which it is.

It is quite common for a 5512 to have a case back stamped 5513.

Very common. My 5513 has a 5512 case back.

Yes, happens all the time. My 5512 came with a 5513 case back. Common wisdom is that Rolex just used whatever was available at the time. Don't let this discrepancy sway your decision.

As long as the date code on the case back matches the serial number of the case, it's OK. Very common.

Thanks all for the responses, it seemed a bit odd to see different model numbers on the same watch, but after some reading I've found it was common not only for Rolex back in the day but other brands as well (Omega.)
