GMT II "Fat Lady" bezel ???
Hi I'm a newbie here and not sure if this question belongs in the vintage section, but I just picked up a 1984 GMT II 16760 "Fat Lady" (no date) and I know the bezel should be black & red, but mine was changed at some point to an all black bezel. I would like to find an original coke bezel that would/could have been on this watch in 1984 from the factory. Is there a serial number for that particular bezel or will any coke bezel do? I ask because I thought the font on the original bezel is different. Any answers or pictures of the difference would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Font is different, but any coke will do.

you actually need a period correct FAT FONT insert, a modern service coke insert would be incorrect
fat font coke can be bought over on vintage rolex forum for about $200 for a nice minty one

Puffy is correct, I misread. 8.3 to 8.4 million is correct range I believe.

Since the 16760 introduced the black/red insert, all black/red inserts that are authentic Rolex will fit into the bezel of the 16760 GMT II.
Almost nobody will know or recognize a slight difference in the font on the insert, however, with a bit or searching it would be likely you could find one with the font you want.. You would probably spend 300 bucks looking for a "period correct" insert on the 'Net, while Rolex will sell and install a proper service insert for around 50 bucks..

Master1969, is your bezel the factory original because if you look at the 4 on your bezel the inside blank space is almost touching at the top where as most of the bezels I see the top part of the 4 has a straight line connecting it.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but is the sans serif font = fat font? Was the fat font bezel also used in Fat Lady's with Oyster Perpetual Date print dial? How about on the later R-series 16760? PS Picture is not mine and is only used for reference. |

a Fat Lady does not deserve a service insert if The Doors did a version 2 of LA Woman, it'd feature a Fat Font insert of Fat Lady

From my research I have found only two inserts for the 16760. The first having all serif fonts as Match posted. Notice the tails on all of the 2, 12, 20, and 22.
Quote:
The second is also a serif font insert however it does not have a serif "tail" on the 2 where the 12, 20 and 22 do have tails as shown by Puffy I have also heard of some reference to a particular detail in the 4 that is found in original fat lady inserts but I have not seen a particular photo of it. I don't know what the (C) is that has been referred to in this thread. Can you folks explain? thanks.
