Tudor heritage chrono time sync issues

I recently purchased a used 70330N and love the watch so far, except for some of the bugs with the ETA 2892 + DD movement.

When I try to sync with time.gov, sec hand to 00, minute hand set at about 15sec+ in to allow the movement to catchup, after about 30 min, I will verify that the minute hands aligns perfectly to 00 sec after the catchup.

However, after about 30 mins, the minute hand ends up lagging behind again, maybe by about 15 min as well.

Is there a special way to set this thing so everything lines up? Or is the defective and need of service?

Thanks

I haven't found a way to sync the minute hand and seconds hand.

It's funny you would mention it, because I think it was Monday that I finally decided it was futile and not necessary anyway.

This is my first automatic chrono... is this typical for other movements or is this just a Tudor thing? Quite frankly, I am a little disappointed.

It takes about 25 seconds for the minute hand to engage, so I set it about a minute-hand's width ahead. After one minute it should be all lined up, and stay that way.

My Sinn 6000 does the same thing and I use the same method whats described by Old Expat Beast above . So it's not a Tudor thing and I believe it's common in that movement.

I think I know what you're talking about.

Here's what I do to align the minute hand perfectly on the minute marker when the second hand passes 00/60.

Hack the second hand at 00/60.

Set the minute hand just past the minute marker so that the backside of the minute hand is in perfect alignment with the minute marker.
Be careful when you push the crown in to it twist/advance the minute hand accidentally.

This works great for me every time. Good luck.

I agree. I have the same with mine, although I set it at 20 seconds before the minute rather than 25 and it lines up perfectly and stays that way. I've had the same issues with some of my valjoux automatic chrono, for what it's worth.

Ok, thanks. I've tried it where I had to advance the minute to touch the next minute marker and it seems to work. I also tried forwarding the minute hand and setting it while bringing it back counter-clockwise. For some reason, even though I set it going clockwise, the minute hand will get out of sync eventually.

Do you guys set it on the way forward or backward?

I can't remember. Sometimes it takes 2 or 3 goes to get it spot on, and over the course of the day it may be very slightly off either side (equivalent to about ten seconds) but it's barely noticeable.

On the plus side, I last set mine six months ago, and it's only about ten seconds fast right now. It's quite sensitive to overnight positioning, so you can lose/gain a couple of seconds overnight if needed. The 2892 is an excellent movement and the DD module set-up, while not to everyone's liking, is used by AP in the ROO, among others. My orange hand has been running in perfect synch with the sub-seconds hand 24/7 for the last six months, too.

Thanks. I think I just need to understand that some movements behave a certain way, nothing is perfect. I can live with that as long as it keeps time. I lose about 3-4 sec/day so I am happy with it :)

Try leaving the watch face-up overnight (if you're not already), you'll probably gain a couple of seconds. That way you won't need to set it very often.

Here's what I do. I hack at 40 seconds. I then set the minute hand without passing the marker, to the center of the minute hand. Then I slowly push the crown in. Seems to work pretty well on mine.

That's a different way to think about, but essentially the same thing. Good tip! Let me try that...

It's definitely just an issue of a large amount of slack in the gear train. Glad it's not just mine as I've never really seen a thread about this specific problem before.

This is spot on. And this is one of the rare examples for moving the minute forward rather than counterclockwise to set the time.

Just a quirk of this movement, nothing to get freaked out about. The 7750 has a slow changing date and rotor that can wobble like mad. Each has it's own personality.

My THC has been a very consistent +4 sec per day since bought new in 2011.
