Watch Workbench Project.... Installment # 1..
If you're like me, when you have a project you try to find space in the shop, garage, or on top of your desk....or even the kitchen table.
I have a Shop on one side of the house, and a garage on the other. But playing with hobbies takes a more sterile environment, so it (they) usually end up in my office on the desk...or sometimes in the kitchen (we won't go into details about the perils of this), and sometimes up-stairs to what I call my hobby room, but which has lacked "environment". I'm going to attempt to fix that with a workbench where I can store my watch tools, and to do double duty as a keyboard desk and photo equipment storage etc.. I'm starting out with an old antique kitchen work table that has seen better days and is beyond restoration. You can see it is missing a drawer, the top is a couple of barn planks and if you shake it it wobbles a few inches in any direction: Let's pull the top off and see what we have. pretty bare bones with little lateral support: The bottom drawers have built in flour and sugar bins......I will have to rebuild the boxes, but I think I can save the original hand made faces: The corners are collapsing, and it could use a bit more support...but the "bones" seem OK: Well...It's been a day and here we are with some support for the face, some stability for the basic structure, and something to hold the top up more securely: A close-up of the newly rebuilt corner, fitted, glued and clamped: I hate these projects....it doesn't take long to have half the tools in theplace all over and an OSHA nightmare.. I guess I need a bigger shop: Give me a few days and I can do another installment if you want...

Please keep us updated. Framed many a house, but finishing work I just can't do. If you can't shoot an extra ten nails into the problem, I am out of solutions.

I might shoot a few extra nails in this one too... This is not a restoration of this piece, but rather an up-grade to make it more usable in a hobby room environment. I intend to use scrap material around the shop and don't expect to have to resort to any blueprints for it.. It's a play-it-by-ear project and I won't resort to drawings and blueprints.....although I might have to write down some measurements on a stick.... I just can't remember that stuff any more...

Looks like you're off to a great start Larry.
Obviously you have a fair bit of know how doing this kind of thing, I personally wouldn't know where to start, and as someone suggested poping 10 nails into it would probably be my idea of restored stability and refurbishment
